Tadano Mantis introduced their new model GTC-1200, 120-ton telescopic boom crawler crane at CONEXPO 2014. The concept of the development of the 120-ton telescopic crawler crane was to meet the growing Tadano Mantis core market of power transmission, bridge and civil and foundation construction while expanding the broader appeal of the crane toward lift crane based markets.

GTC-1200 was the totally first new crane developed by Tadano Mantis since acquired by Tadano in December 2008. The project was a collaboration between Tadano Mantis engineering team, as well as Tadano Japan and Germany. It results in a step forward design for Tadano Mantis, full power, round boom with 2 extension modes, HELLO_NET telematics, Tadano AML-C load moment system and integration of hydraulic cylinders, winches and jib systems from Tadano group of companies.

The full power, 5-section 12.8 – 47.2m (42.1 ft – 155 ft) boom was designed to perform well for lift work with the capability of out-of-level, pick-and-carry and foundation work. Complimenting the crane is the jib system that includes a 3.8m (12.5 ft) heavy-lift jib with a maximum capacity of 39.9 ton (44 US ton), which is part of the standard bi-fold jib of length 10.3m / 18.0m (339. ft / 59ft). Optional jib attachment of 7m insert (23ft) with a maximum of 2 pieces can be inserted. The entire jib system can be offset at 0 / 20 / 40 degree and gives a maximum tip height of 82m (269 ft).

The GTC-1200 is power by a Cummins Tier 4f, QSL9 diesel engine rated 350 hp (261 kW) at 2100 rpm. the load sensing, power controlled hydraulic system optimizes the hydraulic output to the diesel engine power output for highly efficient operation and control; the swing system is controlled by a separate closed loop hydrostatic transmission for superior swing performance. The travel system features 2-speed track drives with a maximum speed of 2.6km/h (1.6 mph) and a maximum unladen grad-ability of 52%.
