Demag AC160-2

The AC 160-2 is a striking 25% stronger than its predecessor model, the AC 160-1, thanks to a newly optimised boom system and a 54t counterweight. The 64m main boom can be extended to 97m with a four-section 9m/33m extension.

The maximum lifting height, together with the jib extension is up to 96 meters, an increase of 25% as compared with AC160-1. Many design features of the five-axle AC160-2 are carried over from its predecessor. The 12.35m carrier allows a turning radius of 11.25m, aided by electro-hydraulic rear-axle steering. The AC160-2 uses the powertrain technology of the larger AC200-1. It is powered by a Daimler-Chrysler OM 502 LA, rated at 380 kW, driving through an AS-Tronic gearbox built by ZF.

Features include the Demag IC-1 crane control system with touch-screen colour display, the Unimec boom telescoping and pinning system, electro-hydraulic rear-axle steering and an AS-Tronic gearbox.

Product Description

The Demag AC160-2 is an advanced all-terrain crane, featuring a 10 x 8 x 8 drive/steering system and a torsion-resistant box girder frame made from high-strength fine grain structural steel, ensuring robust performance across diverse operational conditions. It is equipped with four fully hydraulic telescopic outriggers for exceptional stability during lifting operations.

The crane’s power is derived from a water-cooled 8-cylinder DaimlerChrysler diesel engine OM 502 LA, boasting 390 kW (530 HP) at 1800 rpm and a torque of 2400 Nm at 1300 rpm, certified in compliance with EURO MOT 3a. This engine efficiency is coupled with a ZF AS-Tronic electronically automated transmission, offering 16 forward and 2 reverse speeds, a retarder, a 2-range transfer case, and cruise control for smooth and controlled operation.

Axles 2, 3, 4, and 5 are driven and axles 1, 2, 4, and 5 are steered, with differential lockout control on axles 2, 3, 4, and 5, and longitudinal lockout control on axles 3 and 4. The crane’s suspension is hydro-pneumatic on all axles, hydraulically lockable for on-site travel, and is fitted with 10 wheels equipped with 14.00 R 25 tires.

Steering is made precise with a 10 x 8 ZF dual-circuit semiblock mechanical steering system, featuring hydraulic booster and mechanical steering limiter, with special steering programs selected off-road. The AC160-2’s safety and control are further ensured by a comprehensive brake system in compliance with EC directives, and a 24V electrical system supports the operational functionalities.

For operator comfort, the cab is ergonomically designed with a wide array of features including pneumatically sprung and heated seats, safety glass, electric windows, and a sophisticated air-conditioning system.

The superstructure of the AC160-2 houses a separate water-cooled 4 cylinder DaimlerChrysler diesel engine OM 904 LA for its hydraulic system, which includes two variable displacement axial piston pumps for engaging four independent working movements simultaneously. The crane’s hoist and slew unit are designed for optimal performance and safety, with a main boom that features five telescopic sections and a counterweight system for balanced lifting operations.

Safety devices include an electronic safe load indicator with a touchscreen display for monitoring essential operational parameters, ensuring safe and efficient use. The crane also offers a range of optional equipment to enhance its versatility and performance across various lifting tasks.
