Scottish crane rental company Hugh Simpson (Contractors) has taken delivery of a new 700 tonne Liebherr LTM 1650-8.1.
The eight axles LTM 1650-8.1 have been supplied with the six-section 80-metre main boom, to which a 21 to 91-metre luffing jib and updated Y-guy system can be added giving a maximum tip height of 155 metres and a maximum radius of 112 metres. Power is from a Stage V diesel with EcoDrive and EcoMode systems to reduce fuel consumption, noise and emissions.
Other features include Liebherr’s VarioBase outrigger set-up system and VarioBallast adjustable counterweight. The new crane has been acquired for work on large scale building projects and the construction and maintenance of renewable energy schemes.
Managing director Hugh Simpson said: “Liebherr is renowned for its innovation that raises standards for capacity and flexibility. The crane combines compact size and high lift performance. With eight axles this crane can complete hoisting work in the 700-tonne class or even higher with ease.”
Family-owned Simpsons was established in 1964 and is based in Wick harbour in the far northeast of Scotland and run by the third generation of the family. It also has a depot in Scrabster on the north coast, and specialises in lifting and haulage services for the energy, construction and fishing and harbours sectors.
