Two labourers die as crane operator lost control

The accident occurred as the crane operator lost control over the 15-tonne hydra crane while lifting an industrial embroidery machine. The crane operator has been identified as Salman Khan. As Khan lost control over the crane, two labourers who were standing on the embroidery machine to maintain the balance of the machine fell from a height and sustained severe injuries.

In Katargam area of Surat, two labourers died in a crane mishap on Friday night (17th June). Following the incident, the crane operator and the owner of the company providing crane services were arrested by the police on Saturday.

According to police sources, the accident occurred as the crane operator lost control over the 15-tonne hydra crane while lifting an industrial embroidery machine. The crane operator has been identified as Salman Khan. As Khan lost control over the crane, two labourers who were standing on the embroidery machine to maintain the balance of the machine fell from a height and sustained severe injuries. The deceased have been identified as Shivshanker Prajapati (28) and Sandeep Prajapati (19).

They were rushed to the nearby hospital, however, they were declared dead on arrival.

Looking at the incident, the crane operator does not really contribute to the death of the labourers. First of all, they should not be standing on top of a live load during a hoist, which already put them at risk.
