  • LTM 1130-5.1 lifts Liebherr 28 K construction crane out of site
  • Challenges due to narrow crane site and surrounding trees

Following the completion of the shell of the Berg brewery’s beer garden building in the Berg district of Ehingen, the construction crane from Neubrand Baugeschäft + Holzbau GmbH in Volkersheim had to be dismantled and lifted from the construction site over trees for onward transportation. ESB Kranverleih Transport und Hebetechnik GmbH from Mittelbiberach took on the tricky crane job under tight operating conditions with a Liebherr LTM 1130-5.1 mobile crane.

A beer garden house is being built as part of the kitchen expansion of the brewery restaurant. Neubrand used a 34-year-old type 28 K construction crane for the shell construction. These Liebherr fast-erecting cranes are transported to the construction site as a ready-to-erect unit and easily assembled there thanks to a sophisticated assembly concept.

As a concrete wall was also being built on the construction site in Berg during the structural work, which prevented the 28 K from being easily removed, the construction crane had to be lifted out using a mobile crane. The contract was awarded to ESB from Mittelbiberach. The crane and lifting specialist impressed on the narrow site access road with a powerful 5-axle LTM 1130-5.1. The team skillfully assembled the mobile crane, which first dismantled the concrete ballast of the 28 K and then lifted in the travel axle, which was later attached to the construction crane.

Then the more challenging part of dismantling the construction crane began. Once the boom had been folded in, the 28 K was attached to attachment points specially designed for dismantling. The LTM 1130-5.1 carefully pulled up and the construction crane slowly lifted off the ground. The 28 K then had to be lifted over the tops of the surrounding trees. After a 180-degree turn, the mobile crane gently set the construction crane down on the site access road for removal.

The beer garden house will be unveiled to visitors for the first time at the Ulrichsfest from July 6-8. They will be able to enjoy open-air brass music, delicious food and delicious Ulrichs beer under the fruit trees.
