Hitachi-Sumitomo debut SCX3500-3 to the European market

Japanese crane manufacturer Hitachi Sumitomo has launched a 350-tonne capacity SCX3500-3 lattice boom crawler crane in Bauma 2016.

The 350-tonne SCX3500-3 crawler crane is designed to occupy a minimum amount of space on site. In short tail swing radius specification, the live mast will never exceed the counterweight back radius of 6.8 metres, the manufacturer said.

Easy transport and assembly were key requirements of the design, the Hitachi-Sumitomo said. A system called QuickDraw is available for installing the crawler side frames, boom base and lower counterweight slabs. A smaller assist crane is then needed. The upper structure is split front-rear to help reduce transport weight to less than 32 tonnes. A single mast and boom hoist winch structure on the rear means that hoisting wires can stay in place.

Power is from a diesel engine designed to meet EU stage Ⅳ and U.S. Tier 4 Final exhaust emission regulations. To help reduce fuel consumption it has ECO mode and idle stop functions.

The first Hitachi Sumitomo SCX3500-3 shipped to Europe was for Scotland’s Weldex, the UK’s largest crawler crane rental company. It was sold by distributor NRC Plant. Iain McGilvray, Weldex managing director, said, “We trust that HSC provides reliable products and that was one of the key factors in our decision.”
