A tower crane has collapsed at a construction job site at Jalan Raja Muda Musa near Kampung Bahru, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia during noontime. A construction worker and two pedestrians were reported to be injured and taken to Kuala Lumpur Hospital.
KUALA LUMPUR:
“When the crane collapsed, there was strong wind and a loud boom, causing my shop to shake as if there was an earthquake. Not long after I heard people screaming and I saw a woman running into my shop before she fainted.”
Zale Mohd Yani, nearby shop owner
A woman has sustained an injury on her shoulder which seems swollen and several people nearby came to the shop to help the woman. She was rushed to the hospital.
Another victim Zukri Hussin, 57, has also sustained injuries on his right hand and his car was also being damaged. The cables from the tower crane have whipped his car’s windscreen that was parking along the road, causing a shard of glass to struck him.
The number of victims injured in the incident, however, could not be ascertained.
A Civil Defence Force spokesman confirmed two cars, a Proton Persona and a Mercedes Benz, were damaged. “The Persona was damaged at the back as the crane’s boom collapsed on it while the Mercedes’ windscreen was shattered,” he said.
Meanwhile, UDA Holdings Berhad, the developer of the property, released a statement said the construction work was halted to allow investigation while taking immediate steps to inform respective parties around the precinct. A thorough investigation is being conducted to find out the cause of the incident.
