A crane caught fire on 16th May while travelling on the motorway in northern England.

The incident, on Monday, involved a three-axle All Terrain crane from the Emsley Crane Hire fleet was nearing junction 26 on the M62 south of Bradford when a fire broke out and the driver pulled over onto the hard shoulder and exited the crane. He was not hurt and no one else was affected, the road was closed for some time while fire crews brought the blaze under control.

The statement from West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said:

“Crane fire on the hard shoulder of the M62 between junctions 25 and 26 nearly underneath Chain Bar roundabout.

On arrival of the first fire engine, the crews made up to five fire engines for water, seven minutes later this was made up to seven fire engines for provision of water as there was also a fuel fire in the runoff from the fire. Two hose reels, one large jet and three breathing apparatus were used to extinguish the fire. The fire was out at 17:11.”
