Recently, the first wind turbine of Baotou Aluminum’s 1,200 MW renewable energy project in Damao Banner was successfully installed, marking a significant step forward in the company’s transition to clean energy supply.

The Baotou Aluminum Coal-Fired Power Plant Renewable Energy Replacement Project has a total capacity of 1,200 MW, including 1,000 MW of wind power and 200 MW of photovoltaic power. The project also includes two 220 kV substations, transmission lines, a 900 MW demonstration project in Baotou City, and supporting electrochemical energy storage facilities. As the largest project on the renewable energy project list of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, it is expected to provide Baotou Aluminum with approximately 3.8 billion kWh of clean electricity annually, significantly enhancing the company’s clean energy supply capabilities. The wind power project covers an area of over 130 square kilometers and will install 140 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 7.15 MW. The successfully installed wind turbine has a tower height of 115 meters and a rotor diameter of 193 meters.

Upon completion, Baotou Aluminum will integrate 2,100 MW of new energy into its operations. Leveraging the load balancing capability of Baotou Aluminum’s thermal power plant and the aluminum electrolysis load absorption capacity, the project will achieve deep coupling with renewable energy. The company will use over 7 billion kWh of green electricity annually, with green energy accounting for more than 40% of its total energy consumption. This will result in an annual reduction of over 5.7 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions. The project will lay a critical foundation for Baotou Aluminum’s transition to a green, low-carbon, high-quality development model, fostering new growth drivers and enhancing its competitive advantage.
