STS cranes for MGTP

Liebherr Sts At Mgt Montreal 601645

Montreal, Canada-located marine container handler Montreal Gateway Terminals Partnership (MGTP) is extending its lifting capability at the Cast Container Terminal at the Port of Montreal with the addition of four ship to shore (STS) container cranes.

The new STS cranes are made by Ireland-located ship to shore crane, rail mounted gantry crane and rubber tyre gantry crane manufacturer Liebherr Container Cranes. According to Liebherr, they have a safe working load limit of 65 tonnes under a twin lift spreader with an outreach of 55.38 metres, a span of 15.24 metres, and a backreach of 18.29 metres. The cranes can handle the largest container vessels currently visiting the Port of Montreal, said Liebherr, and are future-proofed to handle even vessels of up to 21 container rows across the deck.

The cranes have a curve going gantry system that allows the cranes to move and operate on two interconnected angular berths and will join existing Liebherr ship to shore container cranes already at the terminal.

“MGT is very pleased to team up once again with Liebherr for this important investment in energy-efficient cranes that will support our efforts to optimize productivity and improve our service offering to our customers,” said Michael Fratianni, CEO Montreal Gateway Terminals Partnership.

The STS container cranes will be delivered in the third quarter of 2021.
