Product Description
The Link-Belt HC-48A is a heavy-duty 20-ton lattice boom truck crane, designed for optimal performance in a variety of lifting tasks. With a reinforced carrier, efficient powertrain, and versatile boom system, this crane provides an excellent balance of strength, maneuverability, and precision, making it ideal for construction, maintenance, and industrial lifting operations.
The carrier of the HC-48A is engineered for heavy-duty use, featuring a 6×4 drive system and reinforced frame construction. It offers a robust design with a Rockwell front axle and American Coleman rear axle, delivering stability and durability in various terrain conditions. The standard carrier comes equipped with 9:00 x 20, 10-ply rated tires, but other tire options are available for different operating conditions, including larger 10:00 x 20 tires for better off-road performance. The carrier’s turning radius is 36′ 4″, making it highly maneuverable even in confined spaces.
Powering the HC-48A is a GM 4L-53T diesel engine, a 4-cylinder, 2-stroke engine delivering 170 brake horsepower (126 kW) at 2,500 rpm. The engine produces a peak torque of 402 ft-lbs (545 Nm) at 1,800 rpm, ensuring the crane has the necessary power for both transport and lifting operations. The engine is paired with a 5-speed main transmission and a 2-speed auxiliary transmission, offering 10 forward speeds for flexibility when driving over varying grades and conditions. For faster travel, the crane’s highway speed can reach up to 46.9 mph (75.5 km/h) when using a gasoline engine option.
The outriggers are integral to the main frame, with front and rear double-box beams. The outrigger beams are equipped with manual screw-type jacks and pontoons for quick and secure setup, providing additional stability during lifting operations. For jobs requiring off-road capability, an optional 6×6 drive configuration is available, offering improved traction and off-highway performance.
The HC-48A’s boom system is highly modular, allowing for customization based on job requirements. The standard two-piece boom measures 25 feet, with optional boom extensions available in 5, 10, and 20-foot increments. The boom is built using high-strength alloy steel with pin connections for easy assembly and disassembly. Optional jib sections include a 20-foot two-piece jib with 10-foot upper and lower sections, providing additional reach and flexibility. The crane is also equipped with telescoping jib backstops and a boom angle indicator to ensure safe and efficient operation.
The boomhoist is an independent, gear-driven system that allows for precise raising and lowering of the boom. It utilizes a two-shoe power hydraulic clutch system for smooth operation and fine control. An automatic spring-applied drum brake is hydraulically released when the boom is being raised or lowered, ensuring safe operation. Additionally, the crane is equipped with a boomhoist clutch limiting device, which automatically engages the boom brake if the boom is raised beyond the minimum radius, preventing over-hoisting.
The control system on the HC-48A is Link-Belt’s exclusive Speed-O-Matic hydraulic control system, providing precise and responsive control over all crane functions. This system uses hydraulic power to engage the two-shoe clutches for swing, hoist, and boom functions. The clutches are air-operated and self-adjusting, ensuring smooth and reliable performance during operation. The system minimizes wear and tear, reducing maintenance costs and extending the life of the crane.
The operator’s cab is designed for comfort and visibility, featuring full vision safety glass panels and hinged doors for easy access. The cab includes sliding windows and a fold-down front window for ventilation and enhanced operator awareness. Controls are positioned ergonomically for ease of use, with hydraulic levers for precise control over crane movements.
In summary, the Link-Belt HC-48A is a versatile and powerful 20-ton lattice boom truck crane designed for efficient lifting in construction, industrial, and maintenance tasks. Its combination of a durable carrier, modular boom system, powerful engine, and advanced hydraulic controls makes it a reliable choice for operators seeking performance, mobility, and ease of use on the job site.
