Product Description

The Gottwald AK 850, also known as the AK 850/1100, is a formidable lattice boom truck crane developed between 1982 and 1985. Designed for heavy lifting tasks, it boasts a maximum lifting capacity of 850 tons at a 9-meter radius. The crane’s main boom is highly versatile, offering lengths from 23 meters to an impressive 113 meters. Additionally, it can be equipped with a luffing jib ranging from 29 to 95 meters, enhancing its reach and flexibility for complex lifting operations.

The AK 850 is mounted on a robust 10-axle carrier, measuring 22.88 meters in length and 3.0 meters in width. This configuration not only supports the crane’s substantial weight but also provides the necessary stability for heavy lifts. The carrier is powered by a MAN D 2542 MTE diesel engine, delivering 382 kW (520 PS), while the superstructure operates with a MAN D 2566 MTE engine, producing 200 kW (271 PS). The crane’s transmission system includes an Allison automatic CLBT 750 with five forward gears and one reverse gear.

For lifting operations, the AK 850 utilizes a derrick mast of 35 to 43 meters, with a radius A-frame of 14.5 meters. It accommodates a maximum counterweight of 206 tons on the superstructure, with an additional derrick counterweight tray capable of holding up to 500 tons. The crane’s outriggers extend to a base of 14.7 by 14.7 meters, providing a solid foundation during lifting tasks.

Historically, the AK 850 held the title of Europe’s most powerful truck-mounted crane until 2007. Initially operated by the German company Schmidbauer in Munich, it was later sold to Wheelers Cranes in Australia in 2007. As of 2014, reports indicated that the crane was located near Mumbai, India.

The Gottwald AK 850 remains a significant example of engineering prowess in the field of heavy lifting, demonstrating a blend of substantial capacity, reach, and mobility that has served large-scale projects across the globe.
