How Does Tadano Asymmetric Outrigger (Smart Chart) Works?

As early as 1991, Tadano ahead of other manufacturers introduced a control system that allows safe crane operations in asymmetric outrigger extension setup by the way of outrigger extension width detection. This means that even when all four outriggers are not fully extended, the crane is still able to carry a lift safely.

Introduction of Smart chart

In 2017, Tadano has evolved this to become the new Smart Chart technology. This enhances the crane performance with asymmetric outriggers, as well as when the outriggers are fully extended.

The Smart Chart expands the working area shape from a circular cone range to a square pyramid, providing better lifting charts at the directions over the outriggers. You can see from the illustration below.

As mentioned earlier, the Smart Chart also worked when using asymmetric outrigger extension.

Cover more area with fully extended outriggers

Looking at the diagram on the left, in conventional cranes without the Smart Chart technology, the crane lifting are is bounded in a conventional circular working area (green colour). This means that in order to lift out from the area, you will either need to install a fixed jib or replace with a larger capacity crane. However, with Smart Chart, you can easily reach out further (blue area) without having to change any configuration.

Better Radius At constraint space

Looking at the diagram on the right, the crane is working with asymmetric outriggers, but still able to reach out to the corner to lift the load. Imagine that with a full outrigger configuration, you will need to park the crane further away from the building, increasing the working radius.
