New heavy-duty MEWP model offers unmatched stability, safety, and productivity for high-reach jobs
Tadano will debut its groundbreaking AS-63HD at bauma 2025 (April 7–13, Munich), marking a major step forward in the North American mobile elevating work platform (MEWP) market. Engineered for exceptional stability, load capacity, and operator safety, the AS-63HD is the first boom lift in North America to offer a 2,200-lb (1-ton) platform capacity—blending the reach of a telescopic boom with the vertical strength of an RT scissor lift.
High-Capacity Platform Redefines Jobsite Efficiency
With a platform height of 62 ft 8 in (19.1 m) and a horizontal outreach of 37 ft 4 in (11.4 m), the AS-63HD delivers substantial flexibility for high-reach tasks. It’s designed to simultaneously lift personnel and materials, reducing reliance on multiple machines and enhancing productivity.
“We believe the AS-63HD is a disruptive product,” said Erik Elzinga, VP of AWP Business Development for Tadano Americas. “It allows contractors to move workers and heavy materials at once—something a traditional boom or scissor lift can’t achieve alone.”
The platform, which measures 13 ft 9 in x 6 ft 4 in x 3 ft 7 in (4.2 x 1.94 x 1.1 m), can support up to 10 occupants or a mixed load of personnel and materials, making it ideal for applications such as steel erection, pipefitting, glazing, and welding.
Safety and Stability at the Forefront
Platform overloading remains a significant challenge on many worksites. Tadano addresses this head-on with the AS-63HD’s class-leading load capacity, significantly reducing unplanned shutdowns and service interruptions due to overload conditions.
The boom lift’s structural design borrows from Tadano’s legacy in crane manufacturing, featuring a rigid mast and four-section synchronized telescoping boom that ensures minimal platform deflection and high lateral stability—without requiring outriggers.
“This machine isn’t just powerful—it’s solid and intuitive to operate,” added Elzinga. “We’ve built in Tadano’s crane-grade hydraulic and structural engineering to ensure confidence on the job.”
Advanced Maneuverability and Control
The AS-63HD incorporates an exclusive automatic 4-motion control system, allowing for seamless movement in straight-line directions. Operators benefit from 360-degree continuous platform rotation, granting full coverage of the work area without chassis repositioning.
For power and mobility, the unit is driven by a 74.3-hp (55.4 kW) Kubota V3800 engine, paired with solid tires, 4WD, and gradeability up to 40%. A 5-degree tilt control function ensures safety on uneven terrain, and the machine achieves travel speeds up to 3 mph (4.8 km/h)—ideal for navigating large or congested job sites.
Simplified Job Planning and Increased ROI
Unlike traditional scissor lifts, the AS-63HD’s platform does not rely on extendable decks, offering consistent weight distribution across its surface and allowing materials to be placed freely. Optional generator packages and 120V AC outlets onboard further extend its on-site functionality.
“This lift isn’t just an incremental improvement—it’s a new way of working,” Elzinga emphasized. “Contractors can complete heavy-duty tasks with fewer machines, increasing efficiency and lowering overall project costs.”
North American Availability in 2025
The AS-63HD is manufactured in Japan and will initially be released in the U.S. and Canadian markets in the second half of 2025, with additional global rollout planned. Tadano will display the AS-63HD, alongside other European-market MEWP models, at Booth FS.1205 during bauma 2025.
