Around 11:15 am on the 30th of August, a crane car collided with a utility pole at a prefectural road intersection in 1-chome Tsunashimahigashi, Kohoku-ku, Yokohama. No one was injured. About 530 houses in the area experienced temporary power outages.
According to the Kohoku Police Station, the scene was a T-junction intersection with a traffic light near Tsunashima Station on the Tokyu Line. A crane truck travelling straight through the intersection collided with a utility pole on the left side of the roadway, causing several utility poles to fall or lean. The traffic lights at the intersection were also extinguished.
A 50-year-old male manager of an eyewear store near the site recalled, “There was a loud bang, and the power went out immediately. (When I looked at the site, I saw sparks flying from the power lines.”)
According to TEPCO Power Grid Kanagawa General Branch, power outages occurred in Tsunashima-higashi 1-2 chome and Tsunashima-nishi 1-2 chome in the same ward, but were mostly restored around 12:15 p.m. on the same day.
