Crawler Crane Collapse In Los Angeles

The boom and luffing jib of a crawler crane came down at a stadium in Inglewood, Los Angeles, California on Friday.

The incident occurred on the new $5 billion, 70,000 seat SoFi Stadium, which will be the home of the LA Rams and LA Chargers football teams due to open in July this year.

It seems that a crew was preparing to strip out the crane, from the Bragg Crane Services fleet, when the lattice boom of a truck crane that was due to assist, made contact with the boom of the stationary crawler crane, causing the crawler’s boom to fail and crash to the ground. Thankfully no one was hurt in the incident and damage was limited to the crane and the car park.

The general contractor Turner Aecom Hunt issued a statement confirming that “the collapse caused minor property damage, none to the stadium itself, the incident is not expected to not affect the stadium’s completion date. Turner Aecom Hunt works extremely hard to create a safe work environment on-site and a thorough investigation is underway.”

California OSHA has launched an investigation into the incident.
