A 500-tonne mobile crane overturned while lifting a concrete bridge section into position on 16th Jan, at the Mumbai Metro Line 6 in Kanjurmarg, North East Mumbai, killing the operator.

The deceased crane operator has been identified as Lovedeep Ravindra Singh, 35, who was working for the Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA).

According to a report we have received along with a photo, the crane – a Sany All Terrain – overturned with its outriggers sunk into the ground while conducting a tandem lift. Another crane has also collapsed on the other side of the metro viaduct.

It was said that when the mobile crane began toppling, Singh allegedly tried jumping from the cabin but instead got caught in between the crane’s body. They rescued him from the debris and rushed him to the hospital where he was declared dead.

The local police will be carrying out an investigation and has registered an accidental death report
