New 560 tm flat top model offers 20-tonne capacity, modular ease of assembly, and smarter jib technology
Wolffkran has launched its most powerful flat top tower crane to date—the Wolff 8038 Clear, a 560 tonne-metre class crane engineered for modern construction needs where speed, simplicity, and prefabricated lifting are the name of the game.
Designed to combine the performance of a traditional hammerhead crane with the modularity and assembly efficiency of a flat top, the 8038 Clear is aimed squarely at large-scale commercial, industrial, and high-rise projects.
Lifting Power with Range
At its core, the 8038 Clear delivers a maximum capacity of 20 tonnes at up to 33.4 metres radius, making it suitable for heavy modular components. With an 80-metre standard jib, it can lift 3.8 tonnes at the tip, and when extended to 85 metres, the crane can still manage 2.1 tonnes at 86 metres radius—remarkable figures for a flat top in this class.
Tower Flexibility and Compact Transport
The crane is designed with versatility in mind. It features a 2.3-metre tower connection as standard, but can also be mounted on a 2.0-metre tower, allowing it to fit into elevator shafts for inner-core construction—something increasingly critical in urban high-rise work.
Transport efficiency was a key focus for the engineering team. The heaviest single component weighs just 15 tonnes, and the entire crane can be shipped in as few as six truckloads. This makes it a cost-efficient solution for contractors balancing lifting performance with logistical constraints.
Smarter Assembly with ‘Plug-and-Lift’ Jib
One of the standout innovations is the new “smart jib” system. The top chord of the jib can be connected using a tool-free plug system, eliminating the need for hammering during assembly. This reduces noise, improves safety, and cuts setup time significantly.
Wolffkran also introduced built-in ‘bolt depots’—clever design features at key overhead junctions like the crane top. These keep bolts in place during installation, so riggers simply slide them into position with minimal strain. Combined with foldable guardrails, extra assembly platforms, and optional auxiliary hoist cranes, this crane is clearly designed with installers in mind.
High-Speed Performance, Low Power Draw
The Wolff 8038 Clear is a pure two-fall crane, available with either a 75 kW or 110 kW hoist winch. These provide line speeds of up to 132 or 190 metres per minute, respectively. And for sites that don’t require full performance, winch output can be dialed back by up to 50%, reducing overall power consumption without sacrificing job site progress.
The crane can also be equipped with a second hoist brake for redundancy, and is compatible with Wolff’s High-Speed Positioning System (HiSPS) for improved accuracy and control. It’s also pre-wired to support an under hook camera system for enhanced load monitoring.
Engineering for the Future of Construction
Speaking on the launch, Head of Product Management Mohamed Abouelezz noted that the crane was a direct response to global trends.
“Large cranes are in demand. Globally, we are witnessing a shift toward construction using prefabricated parts and modules. At the same time, customers are increasingly focused on hassle-free assembly. The 8038 Clear combines power with smart design.”
Project Manager Wouter van Loon added that Wolffkran has even re-engineered the lower jib chord, adding targeted reinforcements that reduce steel usage by 10%—bringing both cost savings and faster assembly.
