A man was killed while working on a shipping vessel in the Tallyrand neighbourhood on 2nd Jan 2022, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
The accident occurred at 1915 Wigmore Street and JSO responded to a fatal industrial accident at a marine terminal around 1 pm.
The deceased was already found dead on board a large shipping vessel when the officers arrived at the scene.
Sgt. Chris Stevens has responded to the media saying that the deceased was working on the ship when a crawler crane lifting a large crane bucket was lowering a load of concrete materials onto the vessel, hitting the deceased in the upper body and killing him.
At this time, law enforcement does not believe there was any foul play involved and investigation is ongoing.
The US Coast Guard and OSHA are on scene assisting with the investigation.
