Key Features & Benefits

The Grove GMK6300 is a flagship all-terrain crane from Grove’s GMK series, designed for heavy-duty lifting with a maximum rated capacity of 300 metric tons. Debuting in the early 2000s, this model was built to address demanding large-scale construction, infrastructure, and industrial projects requiring both high lifting capacity and strong on-road mobility.

Its five-section main boom ranges from 15.5 meters to 60 meters, using Grove’s patented TWIN-LOCK telescoping system which ensures strength and operational reliability. The maximum tip height with the main boom alone reaches approximately 63 meters. To expand its versatility, the GMK6300 supports various jib options: an 11–19 meter swingaway extension, 19–51 meter lattice extension, and a 21–61 meter luffing jib. This enables a maximum system length of 113 meters, providing extensive reach for high-rise and long-radius lifting applications.

The boom elevates from -1.5° to +82° using a single hydraulic cylinder with safety valve. Slewing is accomplished through three slewing gears driven by axial piston motors with planetary reduction and automatic brakes, allowing smooth rotation control with precision stop/start capability.

The superstructure is powered by a Mercedes-Benz OM906LA six-cylinder diesel engine producing 190 kW (258 HP), while the carrier features a separate high-output Mercedes-Benz OM502LA eight-cylinder diesel engine delivering 420 kW (571 HP) and maximum torque of 2700 Nm at 1080 rpm. The carrier transmission uses an Allison CLT 755 automatic gearbox with five forward and one reverse speeds, complemented by a two-speed transfer case with inter-axle differential lock.

Built on a six-axle (12 wheels) chassis, the GMK6300 utilizes Grove’s MEGATRAK independent hydropneumatic suspension system. This provides superior ride quality and leveling, with a travel range of +170 mm to -130 mm on each wheel. The drive configuration is 12x6x12, with axles 1, 4, and 5 driven and steered, and axles 2, 3, and 6 steered. The crane offers dual-circuit hydraulic power steering with emergency steering pump and supports various steering modes, including all-wheel steering and crab steering for enhanced maneuverability on tight sites.

The GMK6300 includes a 50-ton standard counterweight system (expandable to 100 tons with optional additional counterweight) mounted via a hydraulic removal system. The crane features four double telescoping outriggers with independent horizontal and vertical control on both sides, ensuring stability on uneven ground with an electronic level indicator for precise setup.

The operator cab on the superstructure is an aluminum tilt cab (approx. 20° tilt) equipped with full vision safety glass, ergonomic controls integrated into the armrests, hydraulic suspension seat, and engine-dependent hot water heater. The carrier cab also accommodates two personnel and offers excellent driving visibility, comfort, and integrated instrumentation.

Key operational features include a load moment indicator system integrated with anti-two block, audio-visual warning systems, and control lever lockouts to prevent overloads and unsafe conditions. Additional options, such as an auxiliary hoist, engine-independent heaters, folding bunks in the carrier cab, and larger tire configurations, further expand the GMK6300’s adaptability and operator comfort.

Altogether, the GMK6300 combines substantial lifting capacity, excellent reach, sophisticated control and safety systems, and proven all-terrain carrier design, making it one of the go-to heavy cranes for bridge construction, plant installation, tower erection, and major infrastructure projects worldwide.
