Key Features & Benefits

The P&H Century T-500 made its debut as a highly capable and mobile hydraulic truck crane with a maximum lifting capacity of 50 US tons. Designed for both urban and remote job sites, it features a four-section full-power telescopic boom that extends from 34 feet (10.4 m) up to 110 feet (33.5 m). Additionally, users can equip the crane with optional swingaway lattice extensions: a single-piece 35-foot (10.7 m) section or a 35–60 foot (10.7–18.3 m) telescopic version, bringing the maximum tip height to approximately 170 feet (51.8 m). These jibs can be offset at 17° or 30° for greater flexibility in high-reach operations.

Constructed using a full-depth rectangular four-plate box design, each boom section is reinforced with internal slide pads and roller bearings, providing outstanding structural strength without the need for derating during bucket or auxiliary use. The standard counterweight is 8,000 lbs, with an additional 1,000 lbs of optional counterweight if operating without auxiliary jib.

The swing system incorporates a hydraulically powered planetary gear with continuous 360° rotation and a spring-applied, hydraulically released swing brake. Boom hoist and telescope functions are hydraulically driven by double-acting cylinders with holding valves. Winching duties are handled by the P&H model 1580 winch, which includes two-speed operation, automatic brake, and planetary gearing—offering fast and smooth load handling. The standard 19mm (¾”) wire rope provides a line pull of 11,000 lbs (4,990 kg) and line speed up to 642 ft/min (195 m/min) on the 5th layer.

The carrier is a purpose-built 8×4 chassis from P&H with a gross vehicle weight of 34,999 lbs (15,147 kg) including counterweight. Powered by a Detroit Diesel Allison 6L71TA-DDEC engine delivering 270 hp at 2100 rpm and 805 lb-ft of torque, it pairs with a 13-speed Road Ranger transmission offering two reverse speeds. The drivetrain includes tubular axles with tandem walking beam suspensions at the rear, and a spring-mounted tandem front axle with torque rods. The powertrain gives it road speeds up to 52 mph (83 km/h) and gradeability up to 35% in low gear.

Additional features include a fully enclosed, weather-sealed cab with full glass visibility, deluxe seat, air suspension, and comprehensive instrumentation. Safety and productivity aids such as the Krueger anti-two-block and boom angle indicators are also standard, ensuring safe lifting performance.

The T-500’s combination of mobility, reach, and lifting strength makes it a favorite for utility work, steel erection, and general construction—especially where on-road mobility is crucial.
