The Tadano ATF 45-3 is a versatile and compact 45-ton all terrain crane designed to deliver dependable lifting capabilities while maintaining high maneuverability and roadability. Engineered on a torsion-resistant steel frame, the crane is equipped with a full 3-axle (6×6) drivetrain configuration, providing excellent traction and mobility across both paved and rugged terrain.

The crane is fitted with a five-section telescopic boom constructed of fine-grained, high-tensile steel. The boom extends from 9.0 to 34.0 meters hydraulically, offering strong reach for mid-range lift applications. Additional reach is provided by an optional swing-away boom extension of 8.7 or 15.2 meters, which can be offset at 5°, 20°, or 40°, enhancing versatility for jobs requiring up-and-over or angled lifting.

The ATF 45-3 is powered by a Mercedes-Benz OM 926 LA 6-cylinder diesel engine (EUROMOT 2 / EPA 2) delivering 240 kW (326 hp) at 2200 rpm and 1300 Nm of torque. It is paired with a ZF AS-Tronic 12 AS 2302 mechanical transmission that offers 12 forward and 2 reverse gears with electro-pneumatically controlled dry clutch for smooth and efficient shifting. A 300-liter fuel tank supports extended operations without interruption.

Each axle is driven and steered, with transverse differential locks for enhanced off-road performance. The hydro-pneumatic suspension system includes levelling adjustment to provide stable lifting conditions regardless of ground irregularities. The crane rides on 16.00 R 25 tires for robust support.

Outriggers are four-point, fully hydraulic telescopic types with controls available on both sides of the carrier and in the superstructure cab. The outrigger spread ranges from 6.3 m (mid extension) to 7.07 m fully extended, giving the crane a solid lifting base.

The crane’s hydraulic system is driven by a load sensing design, with one axial piston pump (electrically adjustable) and one triple gear pump, all powered by the carrier engine rated at 200 kW at 1500 rpm. This setup provides responsive and energy-efficient control of all crane motions via two hydraulic joystick levers.

The main hoist system is powered by an axial piston motor driving a planetary reduction unit, integrated with a spring-loaded, multi-disc brake and anti-rotation design for safe hoisting under load. A derricking cylinder is used to lift and lower the boom, while slewing is controlled by a three-stage planetary gearbox with variable speeds from 0 to 2.5 rpm and foot-actuated or automatic braking.

Both the carrier and superstructure cabs are constructed of composite steel and fiberglass. The carrier cab features full-width seating for two, safety glass, and road instrumentation, while the superstructure cab offers a panoramic all-steel design with safety-tinted glass, heated and adjustable seats, and full instrumentation for crane operations and outrigger control.

Safety features include Tadano’s Load Moment Device (LMD), hoist and lower limit switches, drum rotation indicators, and holding valves on hydraulic cylinders with protection against pipe and hose rupture. Optional accessories include auxiliary winches, eddy current retarder, engine pre-heater, air conditioning, and specialized tire configurations.
