Key Features & Benefits
The SANY SCC8500 is a high-capacity crawler crane in the 500 metric ton (550 US ton) class, designed for versatile heavy lifting across sectors such as wind power, infrastructure, and industrial construction. It supports a wide range of configurations, including ten combinations of main boom, fixed jib, and luffing jib, with boom lengths up to 354.3 ft (108 m) in standard and 393.7 ft (120 m) in UltraLift mode. Luffing jib lengths reach 275.6 ft (84 m) and fixed jib lengths up to 137.8 ft (42 m), enabling a maximum tip height of 403.5 ft (123 m) in its most extended configuration.
At the heart of the SCC8500 is the Cummins QSX15 engine, delivering 600 hp and 1,845 ft-lbs of torque, meeting Tier 3 emission standards. The hydraulic system uses Rexroth components, with closed-loop control for boom hoist, swing, travel, and winch operations. This provides smooth, responsive control under all load conditions. The crane features a main winch with a line pull of 35,274 lbs and a line speed of 568 ft/min, using a 28 mm diameter rope.
One of the standout technologies in the SCC8500 is the ACE (Auto Counterbalance Equalization) System, which dynamically adjusts counterweight position based on boom angle using hydraulic cylinders. This system optimizes lifting stability and enables lighter transport weight, allowing the crane to be moved like a 400-ton unit. The standard ACE configuration includes 478,400 lbs of counterweight, while the UltraLift package expands this to 868,600 lbs using dual trays and 36 counterweight blocks.
The UltraCab, styled by Porsche Design Studios, enhances operator comfort with a 20-degree tilt, panoramic visibility, and a quiet (<85 dB) cab interior. Integrated electronic displays provide real-time information on load, boom angle, ground pressure, and crane center of gravity. The LML (Load Moment Limiter) system, built on CAN-bus architecture, delivers real-time safety monitoring and automatic operational limits based on load conditions.
The swing system includes dual drives with planetary gear reducers offering precise control up to 1.8 rpm. Each track crawler assembly features independent drive motors for travel, counter-rotation, and pivot turns, with 30% gradeability and a travel speed of up to 0.7 mph. The undercarriage uses 134 shoes per track, each 4.9 ft wide, and the entire travel system is optimized for stability with self-lubricating components and central lubrication for slewing bearings.
Safety and diagnostics are a priority, with the crane offering features like anti-two-block (ATB) protection, boom angle limiters, winch bail limit detection, emergency stop, data recorder, closed-circuit camera systems, and wind-speed monitoring via an anemometer. An automatic switch disables safety limits during assembly mode for efficiency, and all drums have electronic locking systems.
Transport dimensions are optimized, with the base machine measuring 47.6 ft (14.5 m) in length, 9.8 ft (2.98 m) in width, and 9.2 ft (2.80 m) in height, and weighing 99,208 lbs (45 t) without track frames, boom, or carbody. Modular boom inserts and counterweight blocks are designed for standard trailer logistics, simplifying job site mobilization.
Altogether, the SANY SCC8500 combines advanced lifting technology, high transportability, and intelligent control systems, positioning it as a top contender in the 500-ton crawler crane category.
