Tadano Mantis 8012
The Tadano Mantis 8012 is a 40-ton capacity telescopic boom crawler crane designed for versatility and rugged terrain. With a full power 3-section boom reaching 90 feet and the capability to pick-and-carry its full load chart through 360°, the 8012 combines exceptional lifting power with off-road maneuverability.

Product Description
The Tadano Mantis 8012 debuted as a high-capacity tele-boom crawler crane capable of lifting 40 tons (36 tonnes) at a 12-foot radius. It is equipped with a full power, 3-section synchronized telescoping boom that extends from 39 feet (11.9 meters) to 90 feet (27.4 meters), utilizing a single hydraulic cylinder with load-holding valves and cable systems for synchronized action. The boom is engineered for strength and flexibility with elevating angles ranging from -1° to 78°, reaching full elevation in 64 seconds and full extension in just over 100 seconds.
To expand operational reach, the 8012 offers optional lattice-type swing-away boom extensions—a 30-foot extension and a 20-foot jib—which together push the maximum tip height to 140 feet (42.7 meters). Both the extension and jib are designed with heavy-duty sheaves and can be offset at 15° or 30°.
The crane rides on hydraulically retractable steel side frames paired with 36-inch three-bar semi-grouser track shoes, ensuring stability and traction across varied terrain. The two-speed track drives, controlled via pilot hydraulics and powered by axial piston motors, allow for a high travel speed of 1.29 mph (4.8 km/h) and an impressive unladen gradeability of 78%. The travel system also supports skid steering and counter-rotation for tight maneuvering.
Powering the 8012 is a Cummins QSB 6.7 diesel engine rated at 260 horsepower (194 kW) at 2100 RPM, meeting current emissions standards and paired with a 130-amp alternator. This engine feeds dual high-pressure axial piston pumps delivering up to 154 gallons per minute at a system pressure of 4,800 psi (330 bar), supporting all crane functions with precise hydraulic control.
For operational safety and efficiency, the 8012 integrates a modern Rated Capacity Limiter system with a full-color LCD screen displaying critical data like boom length, angle, load radius, and track configuration. Additionally, the cab is equipped with rearview cameras and operator aids, and features a climate-controlled environment with a six-way adjustable seat and emergency shutoff via seat and armrest sensors.
Notably, the Tadano Mantis 8012 excels in pick-and-carry operations with full chart capabilities through 360°, and can telescope the boom under load, even with the tracks retracted. Its rugged design with a low center of gravity, compact retractable track width, and optional cold-weather and auger-ready packages make it a dependable performer in a wide range of challenging environments.
