Crane recovered truck that plunged into Vembanad Lake

20220211 second recovery oof truck

A tipper truck has plunged into the Vembanad lake from Thanneermukkom bund on 30th Jan and was successfully recovered after eight hours of effort.

Two tipper trucks had collided on the first bund on Saturday night and the driver managed to escape before one of the trucks fell into the water. The handrail of the bridge was damaged and the police has to put up a temporary handrail.

The officials have initially tried to pull the truck out with the help of a crane which was brought on a barge, but the first attempt failed. A larger capacity crane was brought from Ernakulam and the truck was lifted from the bridge instead.

The local authority has denied permission to lift the demised truck onto the bund and hence the tipper truck was lifted and placed on the barge.

The operation was carried out under the supervision of police and officers of the Irrigation department. Despite the current pandemic situation, people flocked to the site to see the recovery works.
