Liebherr is set to launch the LTM 1120-4.2, an upgraded version of its popular 120-tonne mobile crane, at bauma 2025 in Munich this April. While the lifting specs remain unchanged, the new model brings smarter controls, smoother handling, and a more connected operator experience.

Liebherr has unveiled the LTM 1120-4.2, an upgraded version of its widely used 120-tonne four-axle mobile crane, set to make its public debut at bauma 2025 in Munich this April. Building on the legacy of the LTM 1120-4.1, the new model introduces key technology and operator-centric improvements while maintaining the proven lifting performance of its predecessor.

Built on Proven Performance

For those familiar with the LTM 1120-4.1, the new 4.2 model will feel comfortably familiar in terms of raw capability. It retains the seven-section 66-meter main boom and the 10.8 to 19-meter bi-fold swingaway extension. Liebherr’s VarioBase variable outrigger setup and VarioBallast counterweight adjustment system also return, ensuring maximum flexibility on tight jobsites and solid performance in a wide range of lifting scenarios.

The crane continues to deliver a 120-tonne maximum lifting capacity, and the structural components and general configuration remain unchanged. This means crane owners can expect the same charts, lifting dynamics, and site adaptability as before.

Next-Generation Controls with LICCON3

Where things really change is inside the cab. The LTM 1120-4.2 introduces Liccon3, Liebherr’s next-generation control system. It brings faster data processing, expanded memory, and a modern touchscreen interface that integrates seamlessly with Liebherr’s telematics and fleet management tools. The system isn’t just about performance—it’s about making everyday operation more intuitive, more connected, and easier to manage from both the cab and the office.

Liccon3 also supports future digital services, and the interface has been designed to feel more familiar to a generation of operators used to modern digital displays. It allows for faster diagnostics, easier updates, and greater integration with site planning tools.

Improved Drivability and Operator Experience

Beyond the controls, the driver’s cab has been redesigned with updated ergonomics, clearer visibility, and smoother handling. One standout feature is the new TraXon DynamicPerform clutch system, which offers smoother acceleration and more refined gear transitions. This not only improves comfort but also reduces wear and tear over time.

Additional upgrades include a digital tire pressure monitoring system—a welcome feature for fleet managers—and a centralized automatic lubrication system, which simplifies routine maintenance and keeps the crane operating at peak performance with less downtime.

Smart Design, Same Power

What makes the LTM 1120-4.2 particularly appealing is that all these new systems and refinements are layered onto a platform that’s already proven in the field. It’s a case of smart evolution rather than radical change: you get the same lifting power and boom length, but with better technology, smoother handling, and easier day-to-day management.

With cities and contractors demanding more connected, intelligent equipment, Liebherr is clearly steering its mobile cranes into the future—without leaving behind the reliability they’re known for.
