Stafford to Debut 20-Tonne STL.257 Luffing Jib Tower Crane at bauma 2025

STL.257 luffing jib tower crane

New STL.257 features 60-meter jib, high line speeds, and upgraded operator cab design

Irish-American and Portuguese tower crane manufacturer Stafford Tower Cranes will officially unveil the new STL.257 luffing jib tower crane at bauma 2025, taking place in Munich from April 7–13. With a maximum capacity of 20 tonnes, this latest model reinforces Stafford’s growing product range as it continues investing in innovation and design post-rebranding from Soima.

Technical Highlights of the STL.257

The STL.257 features a 60-meter luffing jib and comes with 40 meters of tower, providing an under-hook height of nearly 58 meters. The crane delivers a maximum tip load of 3.3 tonnes at full jib radius, with the possibility to increase tip capacity to 4 tonnes in select configurations.

Designed for high-performance lifting, the STL.257 offers two hoist motor options70 kW or 110 kW—with the latter capable of line speeds up to 250 meters per minute. A compact 7.5-meter rear counter-jib swing radius ensures the crane can work efficiently in tighter urban or congested environments, where space limitations are a concern.

The crane will be on full display in its erected configuration at Stafford’s bauma stand, giving attendees a chance to assess its full scale and feature set in person.

Operator-Focused Enhancements

In addition to the STL.257, Stafford will introduce a new operator’s cab, which will be rolled out across its entire tower crane portfolio. The new cab features enhanced ergonomics and visibility, complemented by an inboard-mounted operator/emergency access lift, improving both safety and ease of access for operators and technicians.

Expansion of Heavy-Lift Models

For high-capacity requirements, Stafford will also highlight its STL.757, a heavy-duty tower crane capable of lifting up to 42 tonnes, with a 5.8-tonne tip capacity—designed for large-scale infrastructure and industrial lifting scenarios.

Made in Portugal, Engineered for a Global Market

All Stafford cranes are manufactured at the company’s primary facility in Canas de Senhorim, Portugal, with design and R&D support from its Milan Design Hub. Since acquiring Soima in September 2021, Stafford has invested significantly in product development and production modernization. The formal brand change to Stafford was completed in June 2023, aligning the company with its global growth strategy.

“We wish to assure our customers, it is our intention to further develop tower cranes for an evolving global market,” said Patrick Stafford, President of Stafford Tower Cranes.
