Key Features & Benefits

The Liebherr LTM 1120NX-2 was developed with specific attention to the operational and transport constraints of the Japanese market. With a maximum lifting capacity of 120 metric tons at a 2.5-meter working radius, this 5-axle crane features a six-section telescopic main boom that stretches from 11.5 meters to 52 meters. Additionally, it supports a folding-type fly jib with lengths of 10.8 and 19 meters, allowing extended operational flexibility. The counterweight system supports up to 35 tons, optimizing lifting power for diverse site conditions.

Two winches, each rated for a 8.8-ton line pull, operate at speeds of up to 130 meters per minute. Both main and auxiliary winch ropes measure 21 mm in diameter and up to 200 meters in length. The crane’s superstructure rotation is managed by a hydraulic motor with swing speeds up to 2.0 rpm. The boom telescoping sequence from fully retracted to extended (11.5–52 m) takes approximately 360 seconds.

Powering the crane superstructure is a Liebherr D934S A6 water-cooled diesel engine, delivering 197 HP at 1800 rpm and a peak torque of 920 Nm between 1100–1500 rpm. It is supported by a 256-liter fuel tank. Electronic joystick controls provide precise operation, and the LICCON system offers safety interlocks and digital monitoring for critical functions such as load limits, boom angle, and wind speed.

The carrier is driven by a separate Liebherr D846 A7 6-cylinder diesel engine producing 503 HP at 1900 rpm with 2340 Nm of torque. It utilizes a ZF transmission with 12 forward and 2 reverse speeds. The 5-axle 10-wheel chassis has a max road speed of 80 km/h and excellent hill-climbing ability with a gradeability of 30.9°. Its minimum turning radius is 8.74 meters.

Each axle is suspended via hydropneumatic systems with automatic leveling, and all axles feature hydraulic steering — with axles 1, 2, 4, and 5 steerable, and axle 3 acting as a fixed central axle. The braking system includes a dual-circuit service brake, spring-actuated parking brakes for axles 1 to 4, and an optional electromagnetic Telma retarder.

Special adaptations for the Japanese market include enhanced rear steering logic, axle load management, and compact road dimensions. As per local transport rules, the crane must travel without the main boom when moving on public roads.

The LTM 1120NX-2 balances compact road travel ability with strong lifting power, optimized for urban environments and infrastructure development in Japan.
