Key Features & Benefits
The Sany SAC8000C7-8 represents one of the largest all terrain cranes produced by SANY in the 800-ton lifting category. Built on a seven-axle carrier with a 14×8×14 drive and steering arrangement, the crane was engineered specifically for heavy lifting applications requiring both high mobility and substantial lifting capability. The crane adopts a reinforced heavy-duty chassis structure with all-wheel steering and hydraulic-assisted drive systems, allowing it to travel efficiently between sites while maintaining excellent off-road capability.
The crane is equipped with a seven-section U-shaped telescopic main boom measuring 91 m when fully extended. The boom is fabricated from high-strength fine-grain steel plates using an optimized elliptical cross-section design to improve anti-buckling performance and reduce boom deflection under load. The telescoping system uses a single-cylinder automatic pinning mechanism that allows fast and reliable extension of all boom sections. The basic boom length is 17.3 m while the fully extended main boom reaches 91 m. According to SANY, the crane develops a maximum lifting moment of 24,000 kN·m over the rear with the main boom fully extended.
For extended reach applications, the SAC8000C7-8 can be fitted with a hydraulic luffing fixed jib system ranging from 12 m to 66 m in length. The jib angle can be adjusted between 0° and 40°, allowing flexible operating configurations for different lifting scenarios. In maximum configuration, the crane achieves a total system length of 150 m using the main boom and fixed jib combination. SANY also developed dedicated wind turbine maintenance and installation configurations using specialized 10 m to 58 m wind power boom combinations capable of servicing wind turbines with hub heights up to approximately 140 m. These configurations significantly expand the crane’s role in the renewable energy sector.
A major feature of the SAC8000C7-8 is its lattice-type superlift system. The superlift arrangement is mounted on both sides of the boom foot and substantially improves the load-bearing characteristics of the long boom configurations. SANY states that the superlift reduces boom deflection by 20% to 30% and can increase lifting performance on long boom setups by more than 200% compared with standard configurations. The crane uses a variable-position counterweight system with up to 183 tonnes of counterweight. The counterweight arrangement can be remotely installed and removed and allows flexible adaptation to various site restrictions and lifting requirements.
The undercarriage is powered by a Weichai WP15H660E61 six-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine producing 485 kW at 1,800 rpm with a peak torque of 3,200 Nm between 900 and 1,400 rpm. The engine complies with China National Stage VI emission regulations. Power is transmitted through a German ZF 12-speed automatic transmission with integrated hydraulic retarder and torque converter, providing strong gradeability and smooth road travel characteristics. The crane achieves a maximum travel speed of 70 km/h and a maximum gradeability of 38%. Fuel tank capacity for the carrier engine is approximately 540 liters.
The superstructure is driven by a separate Weichai WP7G300E472 diesel engine rated at 221 kW at 2,200 rpm with a peak torque of 1,200 Nm between 1,400 and 1,600 rpm. This engine powers the crane’s hydraulic systems, winches, slewing system, and boom functions. The hydraulic system combines open and closed loop circuits with load-sensing characteristics, electric proportional control, and dual-pump flow-sharing technology to optimize efficiency and fine movement control. The main hoist achieves a maximum single-line lifting speed of approximately 115–130 m/min depending on configuration, while the slewing speed reaches 0.9 rpm with stepless control for precise positioning during heavy lifts. Boom luffing time is approximately 120 seconds, and full telescoping of the main boom requires around 1,200 seconds.
The crane employs a sophisticated intelligent hydropneumatic suspension system capable of automatic leveling, body height adjustment, rigid locking, and adaptive damping control. This system improves both operator comfort and driving stability on uneven terrain. The SAC8000C7-8 also features six steering modes including highway steering, all-wheel steering, crab steering, independent rear axle steering, and rear axle lock steering, enhancing maneuverability in confined jobsites. The seven-axle carrier uses heavy-duty 505-series tires and heavy-load axles, with mechanical drive on multiple axles and hydraulic auxiliary drive on the seventh axle to improve traction and transfer efficiency.
Operator safety and operational intelligence were heavily emphasized in the crane’s development. The SAC8000C7-8 is equipped with a high-precision load moment limiter system with online calibration and ±3% load accuracy. Additional systems include anti-overturning warning, remote monitoring and diagnostics, wind speed monitoring at the boom head, three-wrap winch protection, hydraulic balance valves, tire pressure and temperature monitoring, and multiple onboard cameras for comprehensive worksite visibility. Both the carrier cab and superstructure cab are newly designed by SANY with improved ergonomics, large visibility areas, air suspension seating, touchscreen displays, climate control, and integrated CAN-BUS electronic control architecture.
Dimensionally, the SAC8000C7-8 measures approximately 19.27 m in overall transport length, 3.0 m in width, and 4.0 m in height in road configuration. The carrier wheelbase spans seven axles with optimized axle spacing for load distribution and road compliance. Total vehicle mass in transport condition is approximately 84 tonnes with removable boom sections and outrigger components removed for legal transportation. The crane utilizes large double H-type outriggers with a maximum outrigger base measuring 11 m × 9.6 m, providing excellent stability during heavy lifting operations.
