Key Features & Benefits

The Hitachi Sumitomo 6000SLX is a landmark 500-tonne crawler crane, engineered to tackle the heaviest lifting challenges across sectors such as nuclear power, bridge construction, and wind energy. Introduced as a prototype in late 2008 and officially unveiled at Intermat 2009 in Paris, the crane also forms the basis of the Link-Belt 548 offered in the Americas. It was honored with the Japan Brand Award at the 2010 Machine Industrial Design Awards, underscoring its engineering innovation and design quality.

One of the crane’s defining strengths lies in its transportability. It was developed with global logistics in mind, offering modular component weights of approximately 30 tons and maximum transport widths of 3 meters, enabling ease of shipment across borders and compliance with international transportation norms.

In standard lifting configuration, the main boom extends from 24 to 96 meters, with a maximum length of 108 meters in extended boom mode. The crane reaches its full potential with a luffing jib system, supporting combinations up to 72 meters of boom and 72 meters of jib. This results in a total reach of 144 meters, or 168 meters when paired with tower configurations.

The 6000SLX is capable of:

  • 500-ton lifting at 6.0-meter radius in standard configuration
  • 250-ton lifting at 10-meter radius in long boom setup
  • 210 to 250-ton lifting in luffing jib mode, with tower lengths ranging from 24 to 84 meters and jib lengths up to 84 meters

Performance is backed by high-speed winches:

  • Load hoist speed: 110 m/min
  • Boom hoist speed: 40 m/min
  • Luffing jib hoist speed: 49 m/min

These winch capabilities allow for rapid lifting cycles even with extremely heavy loads. Slewing speed is rated at 1.0 rpm, and travel speeds range from 1.5 km/h to 0.6 km/h, ensuring controlled maneuverability across complex terrain.

The crane is powered by an Isuzu 6WG1 diesel engine, delivering 397 kW (540 PS) at 1,800 rpm, providing both fuel efficiency and the raw torque required for heavy lifting operations. To support its lifting power, the crane can be equipped with counterweights ranging from 20 to 260 tons, configurable based on job requirements.

Engineered for performance and mobility, the Hitachi Sumitomo 6000SLX is an optimal solution for high-capacity, high-reach operations. Its versatility and reliability make it a preferred tool for contractors executing the most demanding construction and infrastructure tasks.
