Nippon Sharyo DHP85-2 M65D Load Chart PDF + Specifications
The Nippon Sharyo DHP85-2 M65D is a heavy-duty hydraulic pile driving rig designed for foundation construction using hydraulic hammers, earth augers and related piling attachments. It is built around the DHP85-2 crawler base and uses the M65D revolving leader, which can carry both a hydraulic pile hammer and an earth auger drive at the same time. The rig has a maximum permissible operating weight of 88 tonnes, a standard leader length of 21 m and can be configured with a 24 m leader. The leader can rotate 90° to either side, allowing the operator to position either the hammer or auger over the pile centerline. Power is supplied by a Hino J08C-UT, 7.96-litre turbocharged six-cylinder diesel engine rated at 147 kW (200 PS) at 2,100 rpm. Maximum travel speed is about 1.4 km/h, while slewing speed is approximately 3.5 rpm. The rig was designed for heavy pile-driving work and can be fitted with Nippon Sharyo NH-40 or NH-70 hydraulic pile hammers.

Key Features & Benefits
The Nippon Sharyo DHP85-2 M65D is a crawler-mounted hydraulic pile driving rig developed for heavy foundation work where high stability, multiple piling attachments and efficient site manoeuvrability are required. Nippon Sharyo designed the machine specifically for demanding pile-driving applications, with provision to operate a NISSHA NH70-2 hydraulic pile hammer and an earth auger drive simultaneously. This dual-attachment capability allows the rig to alternate between drilling and hammering without requiring a complete change of front-end equipment, making it well suited to precast concrete piles, steel pipe piles, H-piles and other driven foundation systems.
A major feature of the machine is the M65D cylindrical leader, which is supported by a pair of back stays and hydraulic cylinders at mid-height and by a leader bracket at the lower end. Two pairs of guide pipes run along the length of the leader, allowing both a hammer and an earth auger drive to be mounted at the same time. The leader can rotate 90 degrees in either direction, enabling either attachment to be positioned directly over the pile centerline. This revolving-leader arrangement improves working efficiency where pre-augering and hammer driving are used together.
The standard leader length is 21 m, while the standard front-end equipment package includes components allowing a 24 m M65D leader configuration. Nippon Sharyo specifies that the leader should be assembled only as long as necessary for the particular piling work, helping reduce unnecessary weight and improve stability. The 24 m configuration uses modular lower, middle and upper leader sections together with the revolving section, holder and top-sheave assembly.
The DHP85-2 has a maximum permissible operating weight of 88 tonnes, while the basic crawler machine weighs approximately 28 tonnes before the leader, counterweight and piling equipment are installed. Standard counterweight totals 14 tonnes, divided into 9-tonne and 5-tonne sections. At the maximum permissible operating weight, average ground pressure is approximately 133 kPa. The crawler undercarriage uses 760 mm shoes, with an overall working width of approximately 4.01 m and a transport width of about 3.20 m. The crawler side frames hydraulically extend for work and retract for transport.
Site mobility is provided by independent left- and right-hand crawler drives, allowing both pivot and spin turns. Maximum travel speed is about 1.4 km/h, while gradeability for the basic machine is approximately 40%. This independent crawler drive arrangement gives the machine the manoeuvrability needed to reposition accurately around foundation grids despite its substantial operating mass and tall leader structure.
Power comes from a Hino J08C-UT diesel engine, a water-cooled, four-cycle, inline six-cylinder unit with direct fuel injection and turbocharging. Displacement is 7,961 cc, with rated output of 147 kW (200 PS) at 2,100 rpm and maximum torque of 750 N·m at 1,600 rpm. Fuel capacity is approximately 250 litres. The hydraulic system combines two variable-displacement plunger pumps with additional gear pumps, allowing independent and simultaneous operation of travel, winching, slewing and front-end attachments. Hydraulic oil capacity is approximately 280 litres.
The machine uses four winch drums for main, auxiliary, third and leader functions. Main and auxiliary winding speeds are approximately 35 m/min in low range and 71 m/min in high range, while the third drum reaches about 56 m/min. The leader winch operates at approximately 51 m/min in low range. The main, auxiliary and third drums support both power-controlled lowering and free-fall lowering, while the leader winch has its own hydraulic and spring-applied braking systems for controlled raising and lowering of the leader.
Maximum slewing speed is approximately 3.5 rpm. The upperstructure uses an axial-piston hydraulic swing motor with a planetary reduction gearbox, acting through an internally geared slewing bearing. A spring-applied, hydraulically released brake provides normal stopping, while a mechanical slewing lock is available for transport and assembly operations.
The DHP85-2 was developed with particular emphasis on stability during heavy pile-driving work. Its cylindrical leader and twin-back-stay arrangement provide a rigid support structure for the hammer and auger, while the extendable crawler base increases the footprint during operation. The machine also includes self-erecting jacks and outrigger jacks as standard, helping with machine assembly, levelling and leader erection.
Operator accommodation includes a fully enclosed cab with wide safety-glass windows, an adjustable reclining seat, air conditioning, heater and electric fan. Hydraulic control levers are arranged to reduce unnecessary operator movement, and an inclinometer with posture alarm is standard equipment to assist with monitoring machine attitude during piling operations. An optional auger suspension load indicator can be fitted to help prevent slack rope conditions when using the earth auger.
The machine can be equipped with Nippon Sharyo NH-40 or NH-70 hydraulic pile hammers, together with a hydraulic power take-off, back tensioner and other foundation accessories. Its ability to carry both hammer and auger systems on the same M65D leader is one of the defining characteristics of the model and makes it particularly effective for jobs requiring pre-boring followed by pile driving.
Overall, the Nippon Sharyo DHP85-2 M65D is best described as an 88-tonne-class hydraulic pile driving rig with a revolving leader up to 24 m long, designed for heavy driven-pile and auger-assisted foundation work. Its 200 PS Hino diesel engine, 3.5 rpm slewing speed, 1.4 km/h crawler travel speed, four-winch arrangement and simultaneous hammer-and-auger capability make it a versatile foundation machine for major building, industrial and civil-engineering projects.
