Giken ECO82 Load Chart PDF + Specifications
The Giken Silent Piler ECO82 is an environmentally focused hydraulic press-in piling machine designed for installing U-type sheet piles with 400 mm pitch in sections II, III and IV. It delivers a maximum press-in force of 800 kN (82 tonnes) and a maximum extraction force of 900 kN (92 tonnes), with an 800 mm stroke. The machine is available in ECO82-3C and ECO82-4C versions, weighing approximately 5,000 kg and 5,400 kg respectively. It is operated by radio control and self-moves along the installed sheet-pile line. Power is supplied by the separate EU200F3 diesel engine unit, rated at 174 kW (237 PS) at 1,800 rpm in Power Mode or 155 kW (210 PS) at 1,600 rpm in Eco Mode. The engine unit complies with Japan’s off-road emissions requirements, while the machine was also designed to meet ultra-low-noise criteria and uses biodegradable hydraulic oil.

Key Features & Benefits
The Giken Silent Piler ECO82 is a hydraulic press-in piling machine developed around Giken’s reaction-based press-in principle, in which the machine grips previously installed piles and uses them as the reaction foundation for driving the next pile. Unlike conventional impact or vibratory piling equipment, the ECO82 presses sheet piles into the ground hydraulically, helping reduce vibration and noise around the work area. The brochure presents the ECO82 as an environmentally oriented model intended to combine higher press-in performance with lower emissions, reduced noise and improved operational efficiency.
The ECO82 is designed for U-shaped sheet piles with a 400 mm pitch in sections II, III and IV. Maximum press-in force is 800 kN, equivalent to approximately 82 tonnes, while maximum extraction force is 900 kN, or about 92 tonnes. The press-in cylinder stroke is 800 mm. According to the specification table on page 3, press-in speed ranges from 1.9 to 35.5 m/min in Power Mode and from 1.6 to 30.0 m/min in Eco Mode. Extraction speed is stated as 1.4 to 55.0 m/min in Power Mode and 1.2 to 54.0 m/min in Eco Mode. These figures show that the ECO82 was designed not only for force but also for relatively rapid cycling during normal sheet-pile installation.
Two main machine configurations are shown in the brochure. The ECO82-4C weighs approximately 5,400 kg, while the ECO82-3C weighs approximately 5,000 kg. Page 3 illustrates the dimensional differences between the two configurations and also shows the separate reaction-base arrangements for each version. The machine is radio-controlled and uses a self-walking system to move along the installed pile line, allowing it to advance without requiring a conventional crawler undercarriage. This self-moving principle is a defining feature of Giken’s Silent Piler concept, since the machine effectively progresses from one installed pile position to the next.
One of the main technical developments highlighted in the brochure is the strengthening of the machine’s reaction foundation. Giken states that the clamp capacity against slipping was increased to 1.5 times that of the earlier SA100, allowing the ECO82 to make fuller use of its press-in capability. The design also lowers the gripping position and brings the main cylinder closer to the point where press-in force is applied. These changes are intended to concentrate the available pressing force more effectively toward the pile tip while maintaining machine stability during operation.
The ECO82 was also developed for higher operating speed. The brochure specifically notes that the machine was optimized for the normal press-in force range of approximately 300 to 600 kN, where it could achieve particularly high penetration speeds. Giken also accelerated movements other than the actual pressing stroke, including chuck raising, opening and closing, chuck rotation and mast movement. Compared with the earlier machine, the brochure states that some non-load movements were reduced substantially in cycle time, helping improve overall productivity during repetitive piling operations.
Another major feature is the automatic operating system. The brochure describes this as a high-function control system developed from Giken’s press-in construction theory. The operator can numerically set press-in force, speed and stroke, while the system manages the operating sequence with the aim of achieving smooth movement and repeatable pressing performance. A multifunction monitor and radio-control system are used for machine setup and operation. The brochure also describes an automatic extraction mode intended to reduce wear on the gripping claws during pile removal.
The ECO82 could also be integrated with the GIKEN IT system, which transmitted press-in information, maintenance data and positional information from the operating machine. According to page 2, this system allowed Giken technical personnel to monitor operating conditions remotely, assist with troubleshooting and use operating information for preventive maintenance. An optional press-in management software package could also record and analyze construction data in real time, providing a more systematic way of documenting piling performance.
Hydraulic and engine power is supplied by the separate Giken EU200F3 engine unit. The power unit uses a diesel engine with two operating settings. In Power Mode, rated output is 174 kW (237 PS) at 1,800 rpm. In Eco Mode, output is reduced to 155 kW (210 PS) at 1,600 rpm. The engine unit itself travels on crawlers at approximately 1.4 km/h and has a mass of about 6,250 kg including the crawler assembly. The brochure does not identify the engine manufacturer or engine model, so those details should not be inferred.
Environmental performance was an important part of the ECO82 concept. The EU200F3 is stated to comply with Japan’s Off-Road Law, and the brochure also notes compliance with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism’s third-stage construction-machinery exhaust standards. In Eco Mode, the power unit produces approximately 59 dB(A) according to the brochure, compared with an ultra-low-noise reference value of 66 dB(A). Giken also specifies the use of Piler Eco Oil, a biodegradable hydraulic fluid, and notes that biodegradable oils and greases had been standard on Silent Piler ECO machines since 2002.
The ECO82 was additionally designed to reduce transport weight and improve durability. The brochure compares the ECO82 favourably with several earlier Giken machines and notes that the 3C version weighs 5.0 tonnes and the 4C version 5.4 tonnes, helping keep the combined mass of the machine, engine unit and reaction base below approximately 12.8 tonnes in the cited transport arrangement. The structural design was also revised to reduce loads on key components, improve wear resistance and maintain a stable machine posture during pressing and self-travel.
Overall, the Giken ECO82 is best described as a compact, self-moving, environmentally optimized sheet-pile press-in machine with an 82-tonne pressing capacity, 92-tonne extraction capacity, high-speed hydraulic operation, automatic control and low-noise diesel power unit. Its principal advantages lie in low-vibration installation, reduced site noise, compact self-travel along the pile line and the ability to integrate piling data with Giken’s monitoring and construction-management systems.
