Kato SR-500L Load Chart PDF + Specifications

The Kato SR-500L is a 51-ton rough terrain crane introduced by Kato Works for the global market in 2016. Designed as a compact yet high-capacity two-axle rough terrain crane, it combines a 35.0-meter four-section telescopic boom, a maximum lifting capacity of 51 tonnes, and Kato’s advanced Automatic Crane System (ACS). The crane was developed to provide strong lifting performance while maintaining a relatively low transport weight and compact dimensions suitable for confined job sites and industrial applications.

Kato SR-500L, 51 ton rough terrain crane with 35m main boom.

Key Features & Benefits

The Kato SR-500L debuted in April 2016 as part of Kato’s new generation rough terrain crane lineup. Manufactured entirely in Japan, the crane was designed to deliver strong lifting capacities through a highly rigid boom structure while retaining the maneuverability and compact footprint required for urban construction projects, refinery work, plant maintenance, and general lifting operations. One of the notable design objectives was to provide a machine that could be transported efficiently while still offering lifting performance comparable to larger cranes in its class.

At the heart of the crane is a four-section, fully powered telescopic boom extending from 10.7 m to 35.0 m. The boom provides a maximum lifting height of 35.6 m and is capable of handling the crane’s rated maximum capacity of 51 tonnes at a 2.5 m radius. For additional reach, the SR-500L is equipped with a two-section swing-away jib available in 8.8 m and 15.2 m lengths. The jib can be positioned at offset angles of 5°, 25°, and 45°, providing a maximum hook height of approximately 51.0 m and a maximum jib lifting capacity of 5.0 tonnes.

The crane’s lifting system was designed for efficient load handling. The main winch achieves a maximum hoisting speed of approximately 110 m/min, while the auxiliary winch operates up to approximately 96–105 m/min depending on rope layer configuration. Slewing is powered through a planetary reduction mechanism with a maximum slewing speed of 2.3 rpm, allowing smooth and precise positioning of loads. Boom elevation ranges from -1° to 82°, supporting both low-level and high-angle lifting operations.

The SR-500L is mounted on a two-axle rough terrain carrier with full 4×4 drive capability. Overall dimensions are approximately 13,030 mm long, 2,980 mm wide, and 3,595 mm high, while the gross vehicle weight is about 33,970 kg. Stability is provided through a hydraulic H-type outrigger system with extension widths ranging up to 7.0 m, enabling the crane to maximize lifting performance across a wide working envelope.

Power is supplied by a Mitsubishi 6M60-TL series six-cylinder turbocharged and intercooled diesel engine with a displacement of approximately 7.5 liters. The engine develops 200 kW (268 hp) at 2,600 rpm and produces a maximum torque of 785 Nm at 1,400 rpm. The carrier uses a fully automatic transmission and can travel at speeds up to 48 km/h, allowing efficient movement between job sites without requiring additional transportation for short distances.

A major feature of the SR-500L is Kato’s latest ACS (Automatic Crane System), which incorporates a load moment limiter, load factor limiter, working range restriction functions, over-hoist protection, voice alarms, and a color touch-panel display. Optional camera systems improve visibility around the machine during both driving and lifting operations. The crane can also be equipped with K-COR (Kato Crane Operation Recorder), which records operational data to support fleet management and safety monitoring.
