Zoomlion ZRT400V452, 40 ton Rough Terrain Crane

Key Features & Benefits

The Zoomlion ZRT400V452 was developed as an upgraded 40-ton rough terrain crane with improved boom reach, lifting efficiency, and mobility compared with earlier models in the same capacity class. Designed primarily for industrial construction, oil and gas facilities, infrastructure projects, and plant maintenance operations, the crane combines compact transport dimensions with strong lifting performance and advanced hydraulic control systems.

One of the major features of the ZRT400V452 is its five-section full-power telescopic boom constructed from high-strength steel. The boom extends hydraulically from approximately 10.6 meters to 35 meters, providing increased reach compared with the earlier 33-meter boom configurations used on previous 40-ton models. The boom profile is optimized to improve rigidity while minimizing structural weight, helping maintain strong lifting performance across the working range. Boom elevation typically ranges from approximately -2° to 80°, allowing the crane to handle both low-radius heavy lifts and high-angle lifting operations. Hydraulic telescoping systems ensure smooth synchronized extension and retraction of all boom sections.

For additional lifting height and outreach, the crane can be equipped with a swing-away lattice jib. The jib generally provides extension lengths in the range of approximately 8 to 15 meters and supports multiple offset positions, typically including 0°, 15°, and 30°. With the jib installed, the crane achieves a significantly greater lifting height for industrial maintenance work, steel erection, and lifting operations over obstacles or confined structures.

The ZRT400V452 has a maximum rated lifting capacity of 40 tonnes at a short working radius and develops a lifting moment exceeding 130 tonne-meters. The crane maintains effective lifting capacities throughout the boom range and can operate using several outrigger configurations including fully extended, intermediate, and fully retracted positions. This flexibility is particularly useful on congested jobsites where full outrigger deployment may not be practical.

The hoisting system uses hydraulic main and auxiliary winches mounted on the upper structure. The winches are driven through hydraulic motors and planetary reduction gearboxes designed to provide smooth load handling and reliable line pull performance. Maximum single-line rope speed is typically around 145 m/min, allowing fast hook movement and improved lifting efficiency during repetitive lifting cycles. Multiple hook block arrangements are available depending on lifting requirements.

Power for the crane is supplied by a Cummins turbocharged diesel engine compliant with non-road emission regulations applicable to its production market. The engine delivers strong low-speed torque characteristics suited for rough terrain operations and crane hydraulic demands. Power is transmitted through a powershift transmission with multiple forward and reverse gears, enabling the crane to travel efficiently both on construction sites and between work areas. Maximum traveling speed is approximately 35 to 40 km/h, while gradeability is around 55%, allowing the crane to operate effectively on steep or uneven terrain.

The carrier chassis adopts a compact two-axle rough terrain configuration with both axles driven and steered. Multiple steering modes are provided, including front-wheel steering, rear-wheel steering, four-wheel coordinated steering, and crab steering. These steering configurations greatly improve maneuverability in confined industrial environments and tight urban jobsites. The front axle is rigidly mounted while the rear axle incorporates oscillation capability to maintain wheel contact and improve stability on uneven ground.

The crane is equipped with hydraulically controlled H-type outriggers capable of simultaneous or independent deployment. Outrigger spreads can be adjusted depending on available working space and lifting requirements. Hydraulic locking systems integrated into the outriggers improve operational safety and stability during lifting operations.

The hydraulic system utilizes variable displacement piston pumps supplying the hoisting, telescoping, and boom luffing systems, while additional gear pumps operate slewing, steering, outriggers, and braking systems. The slewing mechanism uses a hydraulic motor driving a planetary reduction gearbox connected to a slewing ring bearing, providing smooth and continuously variable rotational control.

Operator comfort and safety were key considerations in the crane’s design. The side-mounted cab provides wide visibility through large glazed areas and includes ergonomic pilot-operated hydraulic controls, integrated monitoring systems, adjustable seating, and air conditioning. Safety equipment includes a rated capacity indicator, anti-two-block device, boom angle indicator, hydraulic safety valves, emergency stop systems, hoist limit switches, and outrigger monitoring systems to improve operational safety and reliability during lifting work.
