Haflong: On Saturday evening, a tower crane collapsed at a cement plant in Assam, India’s Dima Hasao district, injuring at least six workers and trapping several others beneath the debris.
The accident occurred at the Line-2 project site of Dalmia Cement Ltd in Umrongso, Dima Hasao district. Emergency responders were promptly dispatched to the scene, and rescue operations are ongoing.
Several injured workers have been evacuated and transported to HAMM Hospital in Hojai for medical treatment. However, the exact number of casualties remains uncertain as rescue efforts continue.
Local sources indicate that five workers are feared dead, while seven others sustained serious injuries. The cause of the crane collapse is under investigation, according to police officials. Both police and district administration are working to determine the full extent of the damage and the number of people affected by this tragic incident.
The new project on the second line of the Umrangso Dalmia Cement Factory is being carried out by a private contractor and has been operating around the clock. Despite the incident occurring on Saturday afternoon, there have been allegations of attempts to cover up the accident, with journalists reportedly being barred from entering the factory premises.
As of now, Dalmia Cement has not issued any official statement regarding the accident.
