Liebherr, one of the world’s largest crane manufacturer is putting the final touches to is 5,000 tonne HLC 295000 heavy lift marine crane , its largest crane to date.

Commissioned in 2017 by Belgian contractor Deme group, the HLC 295000 can handle its maximum capacity at a radius of up to 35 metres on the main boom and take 1,500 tonnes to 70 metres or 200 tonne to 151 metres on its heavy duty jib. Maximum lift height is 175 metres above deck.

Liebherr used its new 1,600-tonne TCC 78000 rail-mounted portal crane to install the HLC 295000’s lower and upper slewing frame, A-frame gantry and 145-metre boom on the offshore installation vessel Orion, at its plant in Rostock, Germany.

The HLC 295000 has been designed to cope with the ever-larger offshore wind turbines, as well as for the decommissioning of offshore oil and gas installations. Once completed the crane will be deployed at the Moray East offshore wind farm in Scotland.
