The Böcker RK 36/2400 is a compact crawler-mounted telescopic crane developed for applications where conventional wheeled mobile cranes have difficulty gaining access or establishing sufficient ground contact. Böcker launched the model in May 2016, basing its lifting concept on the company’s lightweight aluminium crane technology while mounting it on a purpose-built tracked undercarriage. The result is a highly manoeuvrable lifting machine intended particularly for roofing, façade installation, glazing, steel erection, photovoltaic installation, landscaping and indoor industrial work.

Maximum lifting capacity is 1,500 kg in standard specification, while an optional configuration increases maximum capacity to 2,400 kg. With the higher-capacity arrangement, the crane can handle 2,400 kg at approximately 5.4 m radius, 1,500 kg at 7.5 m, 1,000 kg at 10.0 m, 800 kg at 12.9 m, 500 kg at 16.6 m and approximately 250 kg at 23.1 m. These capacities give the RK 36/2400 an unusually large operating radius relative to its compact overall size and low machine weight.

The crane uses Böcker’s lightweight fully hydraulic telescopic mast system, with a maximum extension length of approximately 34.0 m as standard and 36.0 m optionally. Maximum hook height is around 32.6 m, increasing to approximately 34.7 m with the longer configuration. The main mast can be elevated to approximately 85°, allowing the crane to work close to buildings and other vertical structures while still achieving substantial hook height.

An articulated telescopic boom is fitted at the head of the mast. Available extended lengths are approximately 4.86 m, 7.96 m and 11.06 m, with an optional maximum length of around 13.06 m. Depending on extension, rated boom capacity ranges from approximately 2,400 kg to 250 kg. The articulated section has an angular movement of about 162°, giving the crane considerable flexibility for lifting over roof edges, behind obstacles or into confined building areas.

The RK 36/2400 provides a slewing range of approximately ±310° rather than unrestricted continuous rotation. Maximum hook speed is about 50 m/min, allowing relatively fast lifting cycles for a compact crane of this type. Böcker’s radio remote-control system allows the operator to control crane functions, outriggers and levelling from a position with a clear view of the load and working area.

Stability is provided by Böcker’s Multiflex outrigger system, which allows the support geometry to be adapted to the available site space. Maximum stabilizer footprint is approximately 5.50 × 5.50 m, while a one-sided support configuration can provide a footprint of about 7.40 × 3.70 m. Automatic self-levelling simplifies setup and helps maintain the crane within its permissible operating inclination.

The tracked undercarriage is one of the machine’s defining features. The crawler system provides good traction and spreads ground pressure more evenly than a conventional wheeled chassis, allowing the RK 36/2400 to operate on surfaces such as gravel, sand and soft or wet lawns where road-going cranes may require significantly more ground preparation. Travel speed is approximately 2.4 km/h in creep range and 4.5 km/h in fast range.

The machine has a low overall mass for its reach and capacity. Early Böcker information lists a dead weight of approximately 4,650 kg, while later technical information gives a permissible gross vehicle weight of about 4.5 tonnes, depending on configuration. Transport dimensions are approximately 8.5 m long, 2.3 m wide and 2.8 m high, making the crane relatively easy to move and position compared with conventional crawler cranes.

Power is normally supplied by a diesel engine, although Böcker also offers the RK 36/2400 as a hybrid crane with an additional 400 V electric motor rated at 15 kW. The electric drive allows the crane to work with greatly reduced local noise and without engine exhaust emissions, which is particularly useful inside factories, warehouses or densely populated urban areas. Böcker also specifies biodegradable long-life hydraulic oil for the machine. The exact diesel engine model can vary by production version and should therefore be verified against the individual machine rather than treated as one universal specification.

Another distinctive feature is the crane’s ability to be converted into an aerial work platform using Böcker’s Easy-Lock system. With the appropriate personnel basket installed, maximum working height is approximately 30.2–30.5 m. Platform outreach is around 15.8 m with 250 kg in the basket and about 18.8 m with 100 kg. This dual-purpose capability makes the RK 36/2400 useful for façade, roofing and maintenance work where both lifting and personnel access may be required during the same project.
