Liebherr LR 1400 SX

In November 2021, the LR 1400 SX made its grand debut as the latest addition to Liebherr’s crawler crane range. This 400-ton powerhouse is specially designed to take on the diverse challenges of construction and civil engineering with exceptional performance and adaptability. Already, the first LR 1400 SX cranes have left the Liebherr factory, impressing industry experts with its compact transport weight of 46 tons, allowing easy transportation between jobsites. Let’s dive into the features that make the LR 1400 SX a remarkable asset in the world of crawler cranes.

Despite its size, the LR 1400 SX has a wide range of applications and convinces with its flexibility. This is ensured by a modular counterweight system and a variety of possible boom configurations. With the compact transport weight of 46 t, the complete crane can be easily transported between jobsites. Platform and railings remain attached to the uppercarriage during transportation. The self-assembly system enables quick assembly. The Ground Pressure Visualization calculates the current ground pressure of the crane in real time and compares it with the specified safety limits of the relevant position. The ground pressure of the crane can also be reduced using the ground pressure reduction plates.

Product Description

Liebherr’s latest addition to the crawler crane range, the LR 1400 SX, is a 400-ton crane specially designed to tackle the challenges in construction and civil engineering. Already making waves in the industry, the first LR 1400 SX cranes have left the Liebherr factory, boasting a compact transport weight of 46 tons, making it easy to move between various jobsites.

Transportation is made more convenient as the platform and railings remain attached to the uppercarriage during transit, only requiring a simple folding down. The self-assembly system enables quick and efficient setup, with the entire crane operable via remote control, providing operators with a better overview and ensuring increased safety on-site.

Flexibility is a key feature of the LR 1400 SX, as demonstrated by its wide range of applications. It has already impressed German customer Depenbrock, particularly for barge operations, where the modular counterweight system proves invaluable. If a smaller counterweight suffices, the crane can be used on a correspondingly smaller barge, showcasing its adaptability.

The LR 1400 SX’s maneuverability shines when working in confined spaces, thanks to its four crawler drives, facilitating smooth navigation in tight job sites. Its track width adjustment further simplifies access on narrow roads, making it a reliable and mobile crane in various scenarios.

Safety remains a top priority for the crane designers. The assistance system “Gradient Travel Aid” aids in negotiating slopes and inclines, displaying the crane’s center of gravity and providing warnings to the operator before the crane exceeds safe limits.

Additionally, the Ground Pressure Visualization of the LR 1400 SX calculates the crane’s current ground pressure in real-time, comparing it with specified safety limits. This feature provides crucial information to the operator, ensuring the machine remains within safe operating conditions.

The ground pressure can also be further reduced using the ground pressure reduction plates, enhancing stability in sensitive environments. This feature, along with the wide crawlers, convinced Depenbrock of the crane’s capabilities, as did the free-fall winches required for certain applications.

The LR 1400 SX continues to impress the industry with its versatility, safety features, and outstanding performance. As it gains recognition worldwide, this crawler crane cements its position as a reliable and indispensable asset for a variety of construction and engineering projects.
