Product Description

The Kato NK-1600 is a powerhouse in the large-capacity truck crane category, offering an impressive 160-ton lifting capacity with the stability and mobility expected from a fully hydraulic truck crane. Engineered for demanding lifting tasks across construction, industrial, and energy sectors, the NK-1600 combines robust mechanical design, efficient hydraulic systems, and operator-centric controls.

The crane’s boom system features a five-section, fully hydraulic telescopic design extending from 13.6 meters to a full 50 meters. With the optional jib, the maximum lifting height increases to 51 meters, providing ample reach for tall structures, bridge components, and plant installations. At shorter boom lengths, it can lift up to 160 tons at a 3.2-meter radius, while maintaining substantial capacities across mid and extended boom configurations (e.g., 100 tons at 22.7 meters, and 30 tons at 50 meters).

Powered by a Mitsubishi 8DC9 engine on the superstructure, it delivers 282 PS at 1950 rpm (JIS) and up to 773 ft-lb (1047 Nm) of torque at 1400 rpm. The hoisting system operates twin independent winches, with high-speed line pulls reaching 114 m/min, ensuring rapid and reliable lifting cycles. Boom operations are supported by twin hydraulic derricking cylinders and slewing is executed at 1.4 rpm through a hydraulic motor and planetary gear reduction system with a built-in disc brake.

The NK-1600 is mounted on the Kato 7200 carrier, which uses a Mitsubishi 8DC9-TL V8 diesel engine rated at 430 PS (JIS) or 432 HP (SAE). This 16,031 cc turbocharged and intercooled engine supports travel speeds up to 77 km/h. With a 7-axle configuration—where the first four and seventh axles steer, and the fifth, sixth, and seventh axles drive—the crane provides exceptional load distribution and maneuverability. Suspension systems include Reyco on the front axles, hydropneumatic on the middle, and walking beam type on the rears.

Dimensionally, the carrier spans approximately 16.5 meters in length and 3 meters in width, with a gross vehicle weight near 84,000 kg in travel configuration. The minimum turning radius is 13.8 meters, allowing reasonable agility for a crane of its size. Braking is handled by a two-circuit air system, with spring-loaded parking and exhaust brakes for auxiliary control. The vehicle also includes a 400-liter fuel tank to support long-distance travel and extended site operation.

Safety features include Kato’s ACS (Automatic Crane Stopper), boom angle and slew locking, outrigger auto detection, drum hoist monitoring, and overload prevention systems—ensuring safe and controlled operation under all working conditions.

In summary, the Kato NK-1600 is a top-tier solution for heavy lifting where reach, power, and road mobility are required. Its high-capacity performance, advanced hydraulic systems, and 7-axle transportability make it an essential machine for high-rise construction, bridge work, and industrial heavy rigging operations.
