Grove RT500C

The Grove RT500C is a versatile 28 US-ton (25.4 metric tons) rough terrain crane designed to handle medium-scale lifting operations in rugged job site conditions. It features a three-section full-power boom with a minimum length of 28 feet (8.5 meters) and a maximum extension of 70 feet (21.3 meters). The maximum tip height with the standard boom is 76 feet (23.1 meters). For added reach, the crane offers several optional jibs: a 23-foot (7.1-meter) offsettable jib, a 25-foot (7.6-meter) swingaway extension, and a telescopic swingaway extension that increases the maximum tip height to 120 feet (36.6 meters). The jibs offer 0°, 15°, and 30° offset capabilities, providing flexibility in boom positioning for various applications.

The crane’s powertrain is driven by a Cummins 6BT 5.9 L, six-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine. This engine generates 130 horsepower (97 kW) at 2500 RPM and delivers 386 ft-lbs (523 Nm) of torque at 1400 RPM. The engine is paired with a powershift transmission offering six forward and six reverse gears, allowing the crane to achieve a top travel speed of 22.8 mph (36.7 kph). The RT500C is equipped with 4×4 drive and fully independent hydraulic steering, with four steering modes—front, rear, crab, and coordinated—enhancing its maneuverability on uneven terrain.

The crane’s hydraulic system includes three gear pumps with a combined capacity of 112.5 GPM (426 LPM), ensuring smooth and powerful operation of the boom, swing, and hoist systems. The maximum system pressure is 2500 PSI (172.4 bar). The RT500C’s swing system features a ball-bearing swing circle with a 360-degree continuous rotation and a maximum swing speed of 2.5 RPM, supported by Grove’s planetary glide-swing mechanism.

For lifting operations, the RT500C’s main hoist provides a maximum single-line speed of 429 feet per minute (131 meters per minute) and a maximum permissible line pull of 9,080 pounds (4,119 kg). The crane is equipped with a load moment indicator and an anti-two block system, providing real-time data on boom angle, length, load radius, and tip height to ensure safe operation.

Stability is ensured by four hydraulic telescoping outriggers with three operating positions (fully extended, intermediate, and fully retracted). The maximum outrigger pad load is 50,254 pounds (22,795 kg), and the crane is rated for 360-degree operation on outriggers.

The cab is designed for operator comfort and safety, featuring all-steel construction, full visibility with tinted safety glass, and a deluxe adjustable seat with armrest-mounted single-axis controllers. Standard features include a tilting steering wheel, electric windshield wiper/washer, fire extinguisher, and safety belt.
