Product Description
The P&H Omega 40 is a robust and powerful 40 US-ton rough terrain crane designed for a variety of heavy lifting applications. Its four-section telescoping boom extends from 32.5 ft to 106 ft (9.9 m to 32.3 m), constructed from full-depth rectangular four-plate sections that are welded inside and out for superior strength. The crane also offers an optional 34 ft (10.4 m) boom extension and a 25 ft (7.6 m) A-frame jib, providing a maximum tip height of 171 ft (52.1 m) when fully configured. These features enable the Omega 40 to handle a wide range of lifts, including those requiring significant reach and precision.
The crane’s hydraulic system is powered by P&H’s VOLUMATIK® technology, which is designed to optimize oil flow for fast and efficient crane operations. The system operates through five pumps, with four powered directly from the engine’s power take-offs (PTOs), ensuring reliable power distribution across all crane functions, including hoisting, boom extension, and swing. The hydraulic system provides 163.9 GPM (618.1 LPM) of total flow at 2,650 RPM, ensuring responsive and smooth operation.
The P&H Omega 40’s main hoist features dual 8-inch (203 mm) diameter double-acting hydraulic cylinders, capable of providing fast and controlled lifting. The hoist offers a maximum line pull of 16,871 lbs (7,653 kg) with a low-speed option of 551 feet per minute (168 m/min) using 5/8-inch (16 mm) diameter wire rope. For additional versatility, the crane includes an optional auxiliary winch with similar specifications for dual-lifting capabilities.
Stability during operation is ensured by the crane’s four hydraulic outriggers, which provide a maximum spread of 22 ft (6.71 m) for solid footing during heavy lifts. The outriggers are equipped with vertical jack cylinders and are controlled via console switches in the operator’s cab for easy deployment.
The crane’s cab is designed for operator comfort and productivity. It features an all-weather, fully enclosed cab with wide-angle safety glass windows and a six-way adjustable seat. The cab includes controls for all crane functions, including boom telescoping, swing, hoisting, and load monitoring. The load moment indicator system (LMI) provides real-time data on load weight, boom angle, and load radius to ensure safe lifting operations, with automatic lockouts to prevent overloading.
The Omega 40 is powered by a turbocharged diesel engine, providing efficient performance with low fuel consumption. The crane’s 4×4 drive system, combined with hydraulic steering, ensures excellent mobility on rough and uneven terrain. The crane also offers multiple steering modes, including front-wheel, four-wheel, and crab steering, allowing operators to maneuver the crane in tight spaces or difficult job site conditions.
In summary, the P&H Omega 40 is a versatile and powerful rough terrain crane, offering significant reach, high lifting capacity, and industry-leading maneuverability. Its advanced hydraulic systems, durable construction, and operator-focused design make it an ideal choice for demanding lifting operations in construction, industrial, and utility environments.
