Terex RT 780-1

The Terex RT 780-1 is a high-performance rough terrain crane designed for heavy-duty lifting tasks on challenging job sites. With a lifting capacity of 80 US tons (72.6 metric tons) at a 10-foot working radius, this crane is ideal for a wide range of industrial and construction applications. Its four-section, full-power boom extends from a minimum of 40 feet (12.2 meters) to a maximum of 126 feet (38.4 meters), offering significant versatility. When equipped with the optional jib, which ranges from 33 feet (10 meters) to 57 feet (17.4 meters) in length, the crane’s maximum tip height reaches 190 feet (58 meters), making it suitable for tasks that require extended reach.

Powering the RT 780-1 is a Cummins QSB6.7 diesel engine, compliant with Tier 4 regulations, which produces 260 horsepower at 2500 RPM and 730 ft-lbs of torque at 1500 RPM. This ensures efficient operation under heavy loads. An optional Tier 3 version is also available, offering 275 horsepower and 750 ft-lbs of torque. The crane features a 6-speed powershift transmission and 4WD with a selectable four-wheel-drive system, ensuring excellent traction and maneuverability across rough or uneven terrain. It can reach a top speed of 25 mph, making it easy to move between job sites.

The crane’s hydraulic system is robust, with a tandem pump delivering up to 57.8 gallons per minute for boom lift and telescope functions, and another pump providing 52.7 gallons per minute for the hoist system. The hydraulic system operates at a maximum pressure of 4500 psi, ensuring smooth and efficient crane operations. The hydraulic oil reservoir has a capacity of 178 gallons, ensuring the system remains well-lubricated even during extended periods of use.

The RT 780-1 is also equipped with a main and auxiliary hoist system that uses a grooved drum with a storage capacity of 600 feet of wire rope. The system provides a maximum line pull of 18,450 lbs (8,369 kg) in the first layer and a maximum line speed of 489 feet per minute (149 meters per minute) in high gear, allowing for fast and precise lifting operations.

In terms of safety and ease of operation, the crane includes a 360-degree continuous rotation capability with a maximum swing speed of 2.2 RPM. The operator’s cab is designed for comfort and visibility, featuring a sliding door, adjustable seat, and dual-axis electro-proportional joysticks. The crane also comes with a rated capacity limiter, load indicator, and a graphic interface for real-time monitoring of crane operations.

For stability, the crane is equipped with hydraulic outriggers that can be extended to a full width of 24 feet, with intermediate and fully retracted options at 16 feet 6.5 inches and 9 feet 10 inches, respectively. This allows the crane to operate safely and efficiently even in confined spaces.
