Tadano GR800EX
The Tadano GR-800EX (also known as GR1000XL in North American markets) is an 80-ton class rough terrain crane featuring a five-section 12.0 m to 47.0 m telescopic boom, with additional jib lengths of 10.1 m and 17.7 m. This versatile crane is equipped with a powerful Mitsubishi 6M60-TL engine, automatic transmission, and a full 4×4 drive system, allowing it to reach up to 36 km/h and tackle gradients up to 94%. With advanced hydraulic systems, two-speed winches, AML-C load monitoring, and multiple steering modes, it’s built for dependable performance in varied terrain and job site conditions.

Product Description
The Tadano GR-800EX is a high-capacity 80-ton rough terrain crane that offers robust lifting performance and exceptional mobility in challenging job site conditions. Engineered with a full power, five-section telescoping boom ranging from 12.0 meters to a maximum of 47.0 meters, the crane also supports jib extensions of 10.1 meters and 17.7 meters, with triple offset angles (3.5°, 25°, 45°) for versatile setup configurations. This gives it a significant lifting envelope to accommodate a broad range of construction applications.
The boom features a partially synchronized extension system driven by two telescope cylinders and extension/retraction cables. It includes a hydraulic slow stop and automatic speed reduction for safe and smooth operation. The boom can elevate from -1.5° to 80.5°, with a lifting speed of 20° to 60° in just 46 seconds. A single-top auxiliary sheave is also available for light lifting work.
The crane’s main and auxiliary winches are driven by axial piston hydraulic motors and include power load lowering and hoisting functions. They deliver a single line pull of 64.7 kN (6,600 kgf) and reach speeds of up to 149 m/min at the 4th rope layer. The hoist ropes are 19 mm in diameter, with a main length of 253 m and auxiliary length of 139 m. Multiple hook blocks are available to accommodate varying load capacities ranging from 6.6 to 80 tons.
The swing system provides continuous 360° rotation at 1.5 rpm, with a planetary speed reducer and axial piston motor, backed by a manually controlled swing brake. This enhances precision during hoisting and load positioning.
For control and safety, the GR-800EX comes equipped with Tadano’s AML-C (Automatic Moment Limiter). It provides real-time monitoring of operational parameters including boom angle, radius, tip height, rope falls, and more. It includes overload prevention, working range limitation, and speed reduction features to enhance safety during operations. Additional features include a fuel consumption monitor, ECO mode system, and Tadano’s HELLO-NET telematics platform for remote machine management.
The carrier features a robust mono-box welded frame and is powered by a Mitsubishi 6M60-TL engine — a 7.5L, turbocharged and aftercooled inline 6-cylinder diesel engine delivering 200 kW at 2,600 rpm and 785 Nm of torque at 1,400 rpm. It is coupled with an automatic full powershift transmission offering six forward and two reverse speeds, and selectable 4×2 or 4×4 drive modes for off-road capability.
The GR-800EX rides on large 29.5-25 34PR(OR) tires, and includes four-wheel steering with multiple modes: front-only, rear-only, coordinated, and crab steering, allowing a tight turning radius down to 6.8 m. Suspension is rigid in front and hydraulic lockout pivot-mounted at the rear.
Outriggers are hydraulically controlled H-type and can be set at various widths (2.7 m, 5.5 m, 6.7 m, or fully extended at 7.3 m). They feature sight gauges and extension width sensors for safe setup. The counterweight is integral with the swing frame, totaling approx. 9,980 kg.
The operator cab is a one-man, side-mounted unit with air conditioning, an adjustable seat, tinted windows, and an intuitive ISO-standard control layout. It includes multiple onboard indicators, safety features, and ergonomic enhancements to reduce operator fatigue.
With a gross vehicle mass of approx. 51,410 kg, compact dimensions (14.375 m length x 3.315 m width x 3.795 m height), and a top speed of 36 km/h, the Tadano GR-800EX offers powerful performance in a mobile, rough terrain-ready platform, making it ideal for heavy-duty lifting on construction, infrastructure, and industrial sites.
