Terex RT450

Boom and Lifting Features:

• Boom Length: The RT450 features a four-section full power boom that extends from 33 ft to 105 ft (10.06 m to 32.00 m), providing excellent reach and flexibility for multiple lifting tasks. The boom utilizes high-strength four-plate construction to reduce weight while maintaining structural integrity. The boom extension is controlled via a synchronized single-lever control for smooth and efficient operation.
• Optional Jibs: For additional reach, the crane offers a 33 ft (10.06 m) single-piece lattice type jib, which can be extended to 58 ft (17.68 m) with a manual pull-out section. The jib is offsettable at angles of 0°, 15°, and 30°, achieving a maximum tip height of 167 ft (50.9 m).
• Boom Head: The boom head includes four or five load sheaves and two idler sheaves mounted on anti-friction bearings. This design supports quick reeving without the need to remove the wedge and socket from the rope.

Engine Options:

The RT450 is powered by two engine options:

1. Cummins 6BTA5.9: A 6-cylinder turbocharged and aftercooled diesel engine producing 174 hp (130 kW) @ 2500 RPM and 455 lb-ft of torque @ 1500 RPM.
2. Caterpillar 3116 DITA: A 6-cylinder engine with 175 hp (130 kW) @ 2400 RPM and 490 lb-ft of torque @ 1450 RPM.

Both engines ensure high fuel efficiency and optimal power delivery, with a 50-gallon (189 L) fuel tank capacity.

Hydraulic System:

The crane’s hydraulic system is powered by three main gear pumps with a combined capacity of 112.5 GPM (426 LPM). The system operates at a maximum pressure of 2500 PSI (172 BAR), delivering power to the boom, swing, and hoist functions with precision control. A 2-speed boom extension mechanism allows efficient boom deployment, while quick disconnects ensure easy maintenance.

Hoisting and Swing:

• Main Hoist: Powered by a hydraulic motor, the main hoist has a 16 in. (406 mm) drum diameter, offering a high-speed line pull of 16,800 lbs (7,620 kg) at 525 FPM (160 m/min), with a slower speed available for heavy-duty lifts.
• Swing System: The RT450 is equipped with a hydraulic motor driving a double planetary gear for 360° continuous rotation, offering a swing speed of 2.5 RPM. A mechanical swing brake and spring-applied brake provide precision stopping and holding.

Mobility and Steering:

The Terex RT450 features a four-wheel drive and steer system (4x4x4) to navigate challenging terrain. The planetary drive rear axle includes automatic oscillation lockouts, providing stability when lifting loads over rough ground. The front axle is a planetary-type, mounted to the frame, ensuring rugged durability.

• Steering Modes: The crane has four steering modes, including front-wheel, rear-wheel, crab steering, and coordinated four-wheel steering, allowing excellent maneuverability in confined spaces.

Operator Comfort and Safety:

The operator’s cab is designed for maximum visibility and comfort, with full environmental control, including tinted safety glass, a sliding door, and a cushioned, adjustable seat. The control layout includes in-cab gauges for hydraulic oil pressure, engine status, and transmission temperature, along with advanced controls for boom and hoist functions.

The cab is equipped with the Kruger Load Moment Indicator and Anti-Two Block System, which provides real-time feedback on load weights, boom length, and angles to ensure safe operation. Audible and visual warnings are triggered if safe lifting limits are exceeded.

Outriggers:

The crane is supported by hydraulic double-box outriggers, which extend telescopically to provide a spread of up to 21 ft (6.40 m) for stability during lifting operations. The outriggers feature integral check valves and mechanical spin locks for safe deployment on uneven terrain.
