Tadano HK40
The Tadano HK 40 is a 40-tonne class truck-mounted crane with a four-section telescopic boom extending up to 35.2 metres and an optional 9-metre offset jib. Designed for flexible mounting on 3- or 4-axle commercial chassis, it is powered by an 88 kW Mercedes-Benz engine and features multiple counterweight configurations, making it ideal for urban and road-going lifting applications.

Product Description
The Tadano HK 40 is a 40-tonne truck-mounted crane introduced during Bauma Germany 2007 as a replacement for the HK35 and HK35SL models. With its compact build and practical configuration options, it serves as a versatile solution for lifting tasks requiring road mobility and efficient setup.
It is equipped with a four-section telescopic boom ranging from 10.45 to 35.2 metres, extendable under partial load. A 9-metre jib extension is also available, with offset angles of 0°, 20°, or 40°, increasing its flexibility in confined or elevated working environments.
The crane is powered by a Mercedes-Benz OM904LA 4-cylinder diesel engine, producing 88 kW (118 HP) with 470 Nm of torque at 1200 rpm. The superstructure is operated by a three-circuit hydraulic system, incorporating one power-controlled axial piston pump and one double gear pump for smooth, responsive function.
The HK 40 can be mounted on either a 3-axle or 4-axle commercial truck chassis from manufacturers such as Mercedes-Benz, MAN, Scania, or Iveco. The 3-axle version offers varying counterweight configurations (0 t, 2.1 t, or 4.5 t) to comply with different road regulations, while the 4-axle version typically carries the full 4.5 t counterweight onboard.
Its outrigger system consists of four hydraulically extendable points, with controls both on the carrier and within the superstructure cab. A torsion-resistant steel frame and 360° slewing capability via a triple-stage axial piston motor ensure stability and precision during lifts.
The operator cab is made from composite material with tinted safety glass and includes modern features like an adjustable seat, heater, and full crane operation controls. For safety, the crane includes a Load Moment Limiter (LMI), hoist limiters, slew limiters, and optional additional safety valves.
The main and slewing systems are powered by axial piston motors with integrated brakes. The main hoist uses a planetary motor with grooved drum, automatic brake, and a “Super-Stop” hoist rope receiver, optimized for efficient, secure lifting.
Optional equipment includes additional counterweights, boom extensions, hook block selections, air conditioning, engine pre-heaters, and special painting.
Overall, the HK 40 offers an excellent balance of mobility, performance, and ease of use — making it a practical choice for urban lifting, construction support, and infrastructure maintenance.
