Nippon Sharyo DHP-80 Load Chart PDF + Specifications

The Nippon Sharyo DHP-80 is a crawler-mounted pile driving and foundation rig developed for heavy piling work, including driven-pile and bored-pile applications depending on the installed attachment. The machine belongs to Nippon Sharyo’s earlier generation of medium-to-large piling rigs and was already in production by the late 1980s, with surviving machines documented from 1989 onward. Nippon Sharyo lists the DHP-80 with a maximum fully equipped mass of about 85 tonnes and a maximum leader length of 24 m. In typical pile-driving configuration, the machine is built on a crawler base in roughly the 65-tonne crane class and can handle a pile hammer of approximately 14.3 tonnes. Engine specification varies by production version: earlier DHP-80 references identify an EL100 diesel engine, while at least one later machine was equipped with a Hino J08C-UT diesel rated at 147 kW (200 hp).

Key Features & Benefits

The Nippon Sharyo DHP-80 is a dedicated crawler-mounted piling and foundation machine produced by Nippon Sharyo of Japan for heavy civil engineering and building foundation work. It was designed around a crawler crane-type base but configured primarily as a pile driver rather than a conventional lifting crane. Documented machines date from at least 1989, placing the DHP-80 among Nippon Sharyo’s late-1980s and early-1990s generation of large piling rigs. It was later followed by models such as the DHP-85 and other DH-series machines.

Nippon Sharyo classifies the DHP-80 among its former medium and large piling machines and gives the model a maximum fully equipped mass of approximately 85 tonnes with a maximum leader length of 24 m. Used-machine records also commonly identify the machine with a 24 m leader, confirming that this was one of the principal working configurations offered for the model.

The tall leader mast is the key structural feature of the DHP-80. It provides guidance and support for the pile hammer, auger or other foundation attachment and helps maintain pile alignment during installation. A documented working example used a 20 m leader, while the machine’s maximum leader specification is approximately 24 m. In pile-driving configuration, the leader can carry a hammer weighing up to about 14.3 tonnes, allowing the DHP-80 to handle substantial precast concrete, steel or other driven-pile systems.

The DHP-80 was also used in bored-piling applications. Construction-equipment records identify machines configured as bored-pile drilling rigs, including one specification listing a maximum drilling diameter of approximately 2.0 m. This illustrates the adaptable nature of the DHP-80 platform: depending on the fitted leader, rotary drive, auger and associated tooling, it could serve as either a pile-driving machine or a drilling-based foundation rig.

The crawler undercarriage provides the stability and low-speed mobility required for piling operations. One documented DHP-80 has an undercarriage approximately 5.12 m long and 4.01 m wide in working condition, with the width reducible to around 3.2 m for transport. This retractable crawler arrangement helps reduce transport width while still providing a broad working stance when the rig is assembled on site.

Operating mass varies considerably according to leader, hammer, auger and counterweight configuration. Nippon Sharyo’s historical model listing gives a maximum fully equipped mass of 85 tonnes, while individual registered machines have been recorded at around 71 to 78 tonnes depending on equipment and local registration basis. These differences are normal for piling rigs because the leader length and foundation attachment can add or remove a substantial amount of weight.

Engine specifications appear to vary according to production period and machine configuration. Parts-reference information associates the DHP-80 with the EL100 diesel engine, indicating that this was used on earlier versions. A later documented DHP-80, manufactured in 1999, was fitted with a Hino J08C-UT diesel engine producing 147 kW, or about 200 hp. For this reason, it is preferable not to assign one engine specification to every DHP-80 without checking the individual machine.

The DHP-80 should therefore be regarded primarily as a foundation piling machine rather than a crawler crane, even though its base machine derives from crawler-crane architecture. Its main functions are leader-supported pile driving, auger drilling and related foundation work. Unlike a conventional crawler crane, parameters such as maximum lifting capacity, long lattice boom combinations and lifting-jib arrangements are secondary to the machine’s leader length, hammer capacity, auger system and foundation attachment configuration.

Overall, the Nippon Sharyo DHP-80 is best described as an 85-tonne fully equipped crawler piling rig with a maximum 24 m leader, intended for medium-to-heavy foundation construction. Its robust crawler base, long leader system and ability to work with substantial pile hammers or drilling equipment made it suitable for precast pile installation, industrial foundations, building projects and other civil-engineering work requiring a dedicated heavy piling machine.
