Grove RT500D

The Grove RT500D is a versatile rough terrain crane designed for heavy-duty lifting operations, with a maximum capacity of 30 US tons (27 metric tons). The crane is equipped with a three-section full-power boom that extends from 31 feet to 75 feet (9.5 to 22.8 meters), providing ample flexibility for a wide range of applications. The standard configuration offers a maximum tip height of 83 feet 8 inches (25.5 meters). For extended reach, the RT500D can be fitted with a 25-foot (7.6-meter) swingaway extension, allowing for a tip height of 108 feet (33 meters). An optional telescoping swingaway extension, with lengths of 25 to 43 feet (7.6 to 13 meters), further increases the maximum tip height to 126 feet 10 inches (38.7 meters), with offset options of 0° and 30°.

The crane is powered by a reliable Cummins 6BT 5.9-liter, six-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine, producing 145 horsepower (108 kW) at 2200 RPM and a maximum torque of 400 ft-lbs (542 Nm) at 1600 RPM. An optional Caterpillar 3116TA engine with the same power output is also available. The crane is equipped with a full powershift transmission offering 8 forward and 4 reverse speeds, along with a rear axle disconnect feature for 4×2 travel. It can achieve a top speed of 24 mph (39 kph), making it efficient for job site mobility.

The RT500D’s hydraulic system is robust, featuring five main gear pumps with a combined capacity of 172.4 GPM (652 LPM) and a maximum operating pressure of 3500 psi (241 bar). The system is designed for smooth and powerful operation of the boom, swing, and hoist functions. The crane’s main hoist is equipped with a grooved drum and provides a maximum single-line pull of 10,591 pounds (4804 kg) and a line speed of 450 feet per minute (137 meters per minute).

The crane’s stability is maintained by four hydraulic telescoping single-stage outriggers, which feature integral holding valves and a three-position setting for flexibility on various surfaces. The maximum outrigger pad load is 49,100 pounds (24,630 kg), providing the necessary support for heavy lifting operations. The crane is rated for 360-degree lifting on fully extended outriggers.

The operator’s cab is ergonomically designed for comfort and efficiency, with full vision through tinted safety glass. The cab includes a deluxe adjustable seat with armrest-mounted hydraulic controllers, an electric windshield wash/wipe system, and additional features such as a skylight, hot water heater, and circulating air fan. The crane is also equipped with a load moment indicator (LMI) and anti-two block system, ensuring safe operation by providing real-time information on boom angle, length, load radius, and load capacity.

Designed to handle tough terrains, the Grove RT500D offers 4×4 driving and four steering modes, including front, rear, crab, and coordinated steering, enhancing maneuverability in tight job sites. It is equipped with 20.5 x 25 earthmover tires, with an option for radial tires for enhanced durability.
