Product Description
Debuting as part of Potain’s MR series, the MR 220 is an advanced luffing jib tower crane engineered specifically for job sites where space is limited but high lifting capacities are required. The crane’s maximum lifting capacity is 12 tonnes, and at its maximum jib length of 50 meters, it can still lift up to 3.25 tonnes, ensuring excellent performance across the entire reach. The crane’s minimal out-of-service radius and its ability to work within tight environments make it ideal for urban settings and high-rise projects.
The luffing jib mechanism is capable of reaching a maximum radius of 50 m, with lifting configurations that can be adjusted down to 30, 40, or 45 meters based on project requirements. At 30 m radius, the crane lifts up to 7.4 tonnes; at 40 m, it handles 5.25 tonnes, and 4.15 tonnes at 45 m. The luffing motion is driven by a 75 VBR 30 mechanism powered by a 55 kW motor, completing the motion cycle in about 2 minutes.
Hoisting is managed through either a 55 RCS or 75 LVF winch. The 75 LVF 30 winch provides high-performance lifting speeds of up to 82 m/min, using a 75 kW motor. It supports multiple reeving arrangements to balance between speed and capacity. The 55 RCS option offers a maximum lifting speed of 66 m/min with a 55 kW motor, well-suited for lighter loads and frequent cycles.
Slewing is achieved through the RCV 185 system with a smooth rotation speed up to 0.71 rpm, while trolley travel is not applicable as this is a luffing jib crane (the hook travels by jib luffing, not by trolleying). Crane travel on rails is enabled by a RT 544 A1 2V system, offering speeds of 13.5 to 27 m/min using four 5.2 kW motors.
Structurally, the MR 220 is supported on 2 m x 2 m mast sections, and depending on the climbing or anchoring solution, it can reach free-standing or anchored heights appropriate for most tall-building sites. The crane’s counter-jib is compact, and the whole configuration supports narrow slewing radii and minimal swing clearance, which is critical when operating between adjacent towers or in central business districts.
Powered by a 400 V / 50 Hz electrical system, the crane requires between 140 kVA to 160 kVA, depending on the hoisting mechanism used. The entire crane complies with CE standards and CEE directives on acoustic and electrical safety, reflecting Potain’s consistent engineering quality.
