Product Description
The Potain MCR 225A is a versatile luffing tower crane purpose-built for the challenges of tight urban construction spaces and high-rise building projects. Capable of lifting up to 14 tonnes, it pairs compact design with outstanding performance. The crane’s luffing jib can reach a maximum of 55 meters, offering excellent outreach while maintaining tight working radii, which is essential in city center construction where airspace is often restricted. At maximum jib length, it handles a tip load of 2.15 tonnes, while shorter jibs of 30 to 50 meters offer tip loads ranging from 7.4 to 3.25 tonnes respectively, depending on configuration.
The MCR 225A supports multiple mast types—P21A, P22A, VB21A, and VB22—within a 2m x 2m framework, allowing for flexibility in freestanding or anchored setups. In freestanding mode, the crane can achieve significant heights under hook, while its climbing ability, with configurations like the BA66A and B619A, enables it to ascend inside structures for towers exceeding 100 meters in height. This internal climbing capability is especially beneficial for core-based construction in superstructures.
Hoisting performance is offered through either the 75 LVF 35 or the 100 LVF 35 Optima winches. The 75 LVF provides a 75 hp (55 kW) motor with a rope capacity of 766 meters and speeds up to 96 m/min, lifting loads ranging from 14 tonnes down to 2.25 tonnes at varying speeds. The more powerful 100 LVF (100 hp / 75 kW) offers faster lifting speeds up to 140 m/min and accommodates rope lengths up to 1,146 meters, making it suitable for extremely tall buildings. For luffing operations, the crane is equipped with a 75 VVF winch, ensuring smooth and precise control of the jib angle during lifting and slewing.
Slewing is powered by the RVF 162 Optima+ system using dual 7.5 hp motors, delivering smooth rotational movement with a speed of up to 0.7 rpm. The crane also uses a RT 544 bogie system when rail-mounted, capable of travel speeds of 13.5 to 27 m/min.
Electrically, the MCR 225A operates on standard 400V (50Hz) and 480V (60Hz) supplies with power demands ranging from 134 kVA to 154 kVA depending on the hoist system. It complies with CEI 38 and IEC 38 standards. Its compact counter-jib and optimized structural balance allow the MCR 225A to be dismantled and transported using 40’ high cube or 20’ flat rack containers, facilitating efficient site logistics.
Designed to meet the complex logistical and spatial challenges of urban construction, the Potain MCR 225A is a dependable workhorse in the luffing jib category. It offers a refined blend of reach, lifting strength, and configurability, making it a mainstay in high-density building environments worldwide.
