Crawler crane collapse at AdventHealth Orlando

20211012 crane collapse adventhealth orlando

On the 12th of October, a crawler crane fell onto a 10-story AdventHealth parking garage under construction, injuring one person.

The incident happened near East Smith Street and Princeton Street.

Orlando fire officials said the victim, described as a worker, suffered traumatic injuries from debris and was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center in stable condition.

There was a second victim that has refused treatment.

The cause of the collapse is under investigation and engineers were evaluating whether the garage, which is under construction and scheduled to open in 2022, is structurally sound.

A vehicle on the highway has recorded the moment of the crane collapse. See the video below.

It seems that the crawler crane has been configured with luffing jib attachment when the crane collapsed.

The constructions workers are from a company called Finfrock. They’re set to complete the parking garage by late 2022 which will be put on hold for now. Finfrock said the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, which investigates workplace incidents, was on the scene.

Finfrock has passed their OSHA inspections in the previous two years without any violations, but a minor accident caused an employee to amputate his finger in 2018.
